imagine: steve harrington forgets nancy wheeler existed on the night that he met you.

it had been a long few years for steve harrington. he had endured the worst type of pain with his ex, nancy wheeler, lost all of his friends as a side effect, been told by his dad he was going to work instead of going to school, and his only friends were robin buckley, a girl who worked at scoops ahoy in the mall with him before it burned down and a fourteen year old boy who loved dungeons and dragons named dustin henderson.

as robin's sister, i had heard plenty about steve harrington. i had always taken care of my younger sister and it was a fact that i cared more for her than our parents did. when steve started taking over my job as my sister's best friend, i wasn't the happiest camper.

as july began and my sister worked at scoops ahoy with steve, i had begun to suspect that from her stories of the boy that he had feelings for her. i smiled to myself as i imagined the look on steve's face when he found out my sister was a lesbian. she was very secretive about that fact since it wasn't socially acceptable. my parents didn't know, our friends didn't know, our town sure as hell didn't know. but i did. i was the only person she had ever felt comfortable coming out to. i guess maybe that's why it made me mad that steve had come in and taken my spot as her best friend. she had always trusted me and now she was trusting someone else more.

the jealousy was just about to fade when i was sitting at home alone on the fourth of july listening to material girl on my record player. the phone began to ring on my bedside table and i sighed as i picked it up.

"hello?" i said.

"(Y/N)!" robin yelled.

"jesus christ, chill out robin," i rolled my eyes as i situated myself back onto my bed and played with the telephone cord.

"HOW FAST CAN YOU GET DOWN TO STARCOURT?!" she shouted.

"five minutes if i speed," i replied, "you know you have a bit of an attitude for someone who's been gone for two days and hasn't even called! i had to cover your ass for mom and dad."

"(Y/N) I SWEAR TO GOD JUST GET DOWN HERE NOW!" she shouted and the phone line died.

i rolled my eyes and sighed as i slammed my phone into the receiver. i grabbed my car keys and hopped into my car, starting the engine. about five minutes later i was pulling up to starcourt at full speed.

robin emerged with steve, dustin, and a little girl i recognized as erica sinclair. i looked at them confused as steve helped dustin and erica and robin slid in next to them.

"where the hell am i going to sit?" steve asked from the outside of the car.

"i don't know just get in, dingus!" robin shouted.

steve slid into the passenger seat of my car and the second he closed the door i slammed my foot on the gas and we were speeding down the road. i looked at robin in my rear view mirror and she looked absolutely exhausted.
