BLURB:
"Entertaining the elite groups will be difficult, we need all our energy focused on how our pack members look when they arrive." The Elite groups Alpha Laurence spoke of were Royal Guardians. Except those are not the only guests the Laurence Pack will be serving. I knew of the whispers and of the word spread regarding the Prince of the Northern Hemisphere of packs is secretly combined with such a set of groups.
CHAPTER 1
I watch from the distance, the clan's enforcers were working day and night trying to be ready for training by the world's greatest elites. I'm almost jealous as I watch whilst observing as many moves and manoeuvres I could grasp through sight alone. They called me a muted wolf. One: I rarely shifted and two: I wasn't so much of a talkative, sociable character. I worked with the cooks most of the time, with a window open view of the thousands of enforcers on the outside mats. Even while it rained.
"Any food available, Evie?" The Alpha's son, Owen Laurence, was a strict man, only he seemed to be the only one to respect me. I slide him a bowl of carrots and cucumber sliced in precise, fine pieces. He scoffs but leans in next to me and softly eats.
Should you not be down there training?
I asked him through the mere link alone. He waves me off, liking the quiet. I freshman each of the garden salads before their taken out to the main court room where a great deal of clan will eat after training. Before there were shocked whispers down the link, the connection between each member, a crowd of them and then...I knew just who had arrived.
Owen slides me the empty bowl, "You can join us this time, you do not have to serve." He tells me, almost sternly like he's tired of watching me serve. I tilt my head at him, he huffs, but pecks my temple as he steps out of the kitchen. The candles were not all lit up on the long line of tables, serving and dishing out seasoned beans to a specific line of members, middle-aged males, I had the one of them give me a sour look.
"You are not an Omega, girl. You should be training with the other females." Bennett Knox was one of the head enforcers. I tilt my head, a doubtful look in my eyes, I hand him a piece of bread and the group start laughing at the subtle suggestion to stuff his mouth.
He grabs it from me with a roll of the eyes, "I swear I will get you to strut right out and prove you can throw a punch, woman. My own mate is suggesting I rectify that." He points to me, I pat his shoulder with a smile on my lips, using the link between minds alone to tell him I'm all for a one-on-one if he could handle it. He whistles low and fist-bumps me. I serve a few of the youngest pups, kneeling down and pouring juice in a few cups, earning a few 'me's' from the children who ask for more...which is almost all of them.
A thought from Owen has me furrowing my eyebrows and looking up straight to his deep blue eyes, only to pause at the sight of silver ones. The instantaneous reaction zapped against me like a live wire, I blink twice. The palpable energy suddenly coursing through the air had me stilling, even as one child tried reaching for my long coat sleeves. I turn my eyes down, murmuring to Owen down the link that I won't be a moment as one of the youngest, a cute little blonde. One of the orphans of the clan, Celia cups her lips and immediately asks for my help on where to put her plate and if there will be dessert.
I take her plate gently and slide her a piece of cake.
She smiles big and kisses me on the cheek. I rub her back, helping her take a seat back in her chair and push back her blonde strands, "Thank you, Momma." She mistakes me for her mother often. I peck her temple, just as another staff member takes my trolly of food.
I move swiftly towards the grand stairs. Bowing to the Alpha and Luna, Alpha Laurence studies me, bowing his head in respect as I step towards Owen, he gestures beside him, "Evangeline, these warriors held question regarding the food." He states, smirking when one of the warriors move to whack his shoulder playfully.
