Since I've been out-of-work for more than a week now, my parents finally have taken that as a sign to talk to me about finding a new job. But even before they asked me to, I already submitted applications to different job openings online. It's better to take steps even if there's no solid plan yet.
A representative of an advertising company called me yesterday about my interview. The company was looking for a copywriter and I submitted my application a few days ago. The interview is scheduled this morning so I have to brave the early traffic in Ortigas.
When I arrive, the secretary asks me to wait for my turn. I observe that their office is fit for artistic minds. There are no cubicles, only sofas, coffee tables, and chairs. People, with their laptops, can just sit anywhere and discuss ideas. There's a shelf full of magazines and books next to the meeting room. I like the informal working environment and think that I can fit in here.
After fifteen minutes, the secretary calls my name. I'm lucky that the HR representative graduated from the same university, so we clicked right away. She informs me that she will just contact me in the coming days.
I'm not sure, but I am really excited for this.
Back home, I start searching for online tutorials on how to do sketches, lettering, and even painting. It amazes me how there are many blogs about art you can search online. I get from under my bed the box which contains my old sketches and drawing materials. Holding my old sketch pad, I try to draw my feelings. The result is abstract.
Then Modern Mr. Darcy crosses my mind.
I go online and check the email I used to message him. For the past few days, my mind is preoccupied with many things that I forget about him.
And there it is, before me, a new message from Modern Mr. Darcy. It was sent four days after my arrival from Batanes.
Miss Bennet,
How are you? How did your vacation go? I hope you're doing fine days after quitting your job.
Modern Mr. Darcy
I hit reply.
Modern Mr. Darcy,
Thanks for your email. Anyway, my life has been good, though there had been awful moments. My vacation went well. I met a cool guy and he was nice.
Now I'm looking for a job. Hopefully all goes well.
Have a good day.
P.S. Wow, I sound formal.
A. Bennet
I never thought that Modern Mr. Darcy would message me again. Can there really be a chance to meet him? Should I ask him?
Miss Bennet,
It's good to hear that you're making plans. Don't hesitate to message me if you have any concerns. Good luck.
Now about the guy, what was he like?
(We have to be formal. I'm Darcy, you're Bennet.)
Modern Mr. Darcy
His last line has made me laugh. I type a reply.
Modern Mr. Darcy,
He was nice. He toured me around Batanes and we listened to each other's stories. Everything went well.
A. Bennet
I hit send. Seconds later, a reply comes in.
Miss Bennet,
So are you in contact with him now? Are you going out with him?
