Annabeth has experienced flight a few times in the course of her life. Never had she ever thought about flying on top of a living, breathing flying lizard, and the absurdity of it all seemed too surreal for the daughter of Athena.
But now, as she felt the wind whip violently at her curly blonde bangs wildly, the smell of fresh air and the lack of ground beneath her feet, her whole being was thrown into overdrive.
Nothing but excitement and adrenaline rushing through her system as her eyes slowly shut themselves to relish this moment.
It was short-lived.
"What in Zeus' name is happening down there?" Jason's normally collected demeanor changed into one of pure shock, obviously fazed by the fact that a full-on war was raging just under their feet.
The teenage demigod opened her eyes yet again, the stormy grey irises glaring at the events unfurling, and her eyesight being illuminated from time to time by the enemy's ballista and the Dragon Rider's dragons' fire. All around, men from all types started to pour out of the large ships stationed at the island's snowy banks. The sounds of battle cries, metal clashing against metal, and explosions barely let any tactical thought to pass through Annabeth's brain peacefully.
Her eyes scanned for the other Dragon Riders she couldn't see, analyzing where to land Leo and Jason so they could join in on the fight.
But her attention was still glued to the ships, where more and more foes poured out of them, seeming as if they didn't have an end. Annabeth calculated that at this point, the kids that had helped them out were utterly outnumbered and since the men attacking at the Riders and their dragons were clearly the enemies, they didn't have any more backup than the ones already there.
The creature giving them a lift let out a low guttural growl, his ears lowering the more his slitted green eyes observed the battle zone. Obviously, Annabeth knew that this dragon had a clear connection with Greek Mythology. If the daughter of Athena hadn't realized this the moment she laid eyes with the Night Fury, she might as well reduced to being a daughter of Ares.
Or a daughter of Hera. The intention clearly intended.
In a close attempt of comfort, Annabeth petted the sleek black creature's head lightly. She was surprised to see such dragon lean onto her touch when he felt her lay her hand on top of him, her knowing that he was silently asking to not let go.
Yet again, another voice disrupted the moment. "Um, I'm no battle analyst, but I think there's a problem going on down there," Leo said loudly against the whipping winds. "We have to help out, Annabeth."
Annabeth straightened in her seat, deep grey eyes piercing through the enemies in determination. "I'm going to land you on one of those boats, guys. You both need to destroy those ships as most as you can so that those men stop on coming out. You take out the boats, you enter the battle zone and unarm as many foes as possible. Do not let anyone know that you are demigods, and keep a safe distance from the coming dragon fire. I'm positive you'd be roasted before you tried anything else with their firepower."
A few moments of silence passed until Leo spoke up again. "So... I'm not allowed to use fire?"
Annabeth's head shook, her eyes still faced forwards so she could concentrate on what she had to do herself. "No powers. Use your weaponry."
"So, I'm going to take down these bros using a hammer?"
Her eyes rolled at his question. "Leo, their Norse god of thunder is Thor. You do realize he uses a hammer as a weapon, right?"
"Yeah, Mew Mew!"
A groan left Jason unceremoniously. "Gods Leo, this isn't Marvel."
Before any of them continued to argue about movie gods, the Night Fury flew straight down without any announcement. The three held on tight onto the creature's sides to prevent on falling headfirst into the battle and saw how fast they were going. Arrows and lances flew past the trio but given this dragon's ability to maneuver around the air, none of them hit the demigods.
