Astrid has stared into the eyes of death multiple times in her life. Say like, seeing Hiccup's Night Fury pet for the very first time, being held midair with her foot's ability to stay inside her boot being the only way to not fall into imminent danger, or almost being roasted alive when she ordered Stormfly to shoot her fire very close to her naked face when she tried a new roast.
Needless to say, none of those times came to a close second in comparison to staring up a giant dragon with the ability to brainwash his smaller peers. Honestly, the blonde Viking felt horrible that her girl had to go through such torture and be ordered around against her will. It killed her to even know what sort of painful procedures the blue Deadly Nadder had going on inside of her head.
But it all served as fuel to power her blows against enemies' heads. Her ax pierced through a poorly iron sword, its bearer staring at the long chunk of grey matter laying on the ground in shock. While she was leaning towards paring his attack, she felt much more satisfied as her weapon did critical damage to the sword.
The ax's middle section was placed under said man's chin, the double-sided blade standing mere centimeters from his skin. "Fight or fright?"
Her inquiry was soon answered as the man turned tails at full speed. Her mouth curled up into a huge grin, bathing in the small victory before she blocked two men from beheading her. All around, she saw how the rest of the Dragon Riders were disarming Drago's men. It wasn't a surprise that they were greatly outnumbered, but it seemed they were holding up okay. Even Eret son of Eret was taking down his fair share of pampered-mommy-son warriors.
The more she saw Berk defending itself from these unwanted invaders, the more that tiny spark lit up her chest to warm her up in bravery and strength.
Her illusions of the Dragon Riders winning this battle grew dim when she saw a rather large group of foes cutting through the front rows, their physiques even bulkier than their already tall companions. Astrid could feel her irises shrinking down at the ugly truth. If they were barely able to hold out on their own with the tall men, there was no way that they could disarm the twenty wrestling newcomers.
The blonde Viking turned her head to the side so she could have a better bearing of her surroundings. Sure enough, she saw Snotlout battling against two men who were making fun of his size. And even though the girl hated to admit, she knew the short raven-haired boy could take people twice his height without breaking a sweat.
Fishlegs was still trying to distract the Alpha from continuing its wreckage over Berk, sometimes using the big Battle Alarm horn or helping out the twins in shooting sheep upwards.
Her eyes then trailed upwards, where she saw Hiccup perched on top of his baby Scuttleclaw, seeming too immersed in a deep conversation with Drago. Said man's sadistic grin didn't convey any good news to the sky-blue eyed girl, and she was beginning to worry if Drago Bludvist had a plan in mind and was waiting for the perfect moment to strike her boyfriend.
She had almost lost him once. Astrid wouldn't stand around and see him get anywhere near Valhalla ever again.
"Heads up!" a voice broke through her mind like shattered glass. Her eyesight managed to register fast movement advancing towards her face until a force stopped such movement before it could collide with her. Astrid's breathing came out ragged as her eyes finally adjusted to see a tight knuckle floating a few inches from the base of her nose, focusing on the person who had almost managed to deliver the devastating blow.
