Dream chuckled softly as his phone lit up, George's contact covering the screen as his ringtone blared. With no hesitance, he answered.
"Miss me already?" He smirked, expression dropping when he didn't get an answer. "George?" He asked softly.
The only sounds coming from the other end were the sounds of cars passing by and the typical nature sounds one would hear.
"Hey, George? Did you butt dial me?" He chuckled again, an awkward tone taking on the atmosphere. "Georgeeeeee-" He called loudly, trying to get the brunettes attention. He heard a groan come from the other end and worry began to fill him.
"George?! Hey, are you alright?" He asked, rushed.
"Dream-?" George mumbled, barely concious. "Where- wh... where am-?" The brunette was clearly having trouble speaking.
"Uh- are you okay? What's going on?" Dream asked, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion.
"I..." George cut himself off once again, going completely silent.
"George, c'mon. This isnt funny." Dream mumbled, rushing to put his shoes on and find his keys. He stumbled against his entryway cabinet and tipped it over, flinching as it made contact with the ground. "Shit," He mumbled, picking it up and making his way out the door.
"Stay where you are. I'm coming to find you." Dream spoke softly, knowing George was likely unable to hear him. At this point, he was only staying on the phone for his own comfort.
A sudden realization met his mind and he opened their 'family' app, momentarily thanking Sapnap for being a paranoid idiot.
He pinned George's location to his phone and followed the directions, only driving a few minutes before he spotted a smaller brunette leaning against a tree.
He parked and put his hazards on before rushing over to George, shaking him slightly.
"George. Hey, wake up." He felt his eyes water a bit and sighed. "I'm calling an ambulence-" He mumbled, pressing his fingertips to George's neck, thankful to feel a pulse.
He dialed 9-1-1 and told them the small amount of information he knew, being told to wait on the line and inform the operator when help arrived.
A few hours later, Dream was at George's side, refusing to leave. The brunette was still unconscious and the doctors were still running tests.
A knock ran out, and Dream poked his head around the corner to see his sister.
"Hey!" He said softly, giving her a brief hug. "Thank you for coming. I don't wanna leave him alone and his family is having troubles getting a flight from the UK."
"Yeah no problem, Clay. How long will it be?" She asked.
"Uh, not long. I'm just gonna get food and make a quick phone call."
"Okay," She answered. Dream began walking out but she stopped him. "Hey, uh- Clay? When are you guys gonna go out?" She chuckled, only half joking.
"Oh, shush. We don't like eacgother that way."
"Bullshit, Clay. You do and you have to admit-" a loud, constant beeping brought her out of her rant and she pressed the nurse button instinctively.
In a short amount of time, all of the doctors working on his case were in the room, telling Dream and his sister to leave.
Minutes go by, feeling like hours, before Dream watches George be wheeled by.
"George!" He calls, breathing heavily.
"Calm down please, sir." The doctor mumbled. Dream sighs and sits back down, bouncing his leg. "It seems as though George has a brain bleed that we didn't see with any of our screenings. He'll need emergency surgery to stop the bleeding. It's a very safe surgery and has very small risk percentages."
Dream nodded softly, putting his head in his hands and trying to comprehend what he was just told.
"How didn't you see it earlier..." He mumbled.
"Sometimes swelling can disguise injuries. It's abnormal for it to disguise a brain bleed so it is also possible that it didn't start bleeding until a little while ago." The doctor answered.
Dream nodded again and the doctor said goodbye before leaving. His mind was racing and the next several hours felt like years of waiting.
Every noise he heard made him jump up, only to be disappointed when it wasn't anything important.
Finally, he heard the sound of wheels scraping tile and saw George being rolled back to his room.
"Finally," He mumbled, standing immediately. His sister had left just before dark.
He followed the doctors into the room and the same doctor from earlier gave him a smile.
"The surgery was a perfect success and Dr.Rosemary said the bleeding was likely what kept him from waking up, so he should be up in an hour or so as the anesthesia wears off. He should be completely normal, as well. There is a tiny chance he may have some memory loss, but it's highly unlikely and not expected in this case."
"Thank you," Dream smiled, returning to George's bedside.
He watched TV, at some point lacing his hand with George's.
About an hour in, he felt a squeeze on his hand and immediately turned.
"George-?" He asked, hopeful. Dream watched as the brunette's eyes opened and he smiled. "Hey..."
George furrowed his eyebrows and looked around.
"Um... who... who are you?" He asked, making Dream's face drop.
"George it's me, Dream." Dream's words didn't seem to trigger anything within George. "Geo-"
The brunette's laughter cut him off.
"Kidding. Hi, Dream." George chuckled.
Dream smacked him lightly and scoffed.
"Fuck you," He said. George shrugged.
"When and where?" George asked, earning a bright blush from Dream.
"In your dreams, Asshole."
"Whatever you say, Clay." George smirked.
"How did you-" Dream mumbled.
"I heard your sister call you Clay." He shrugged again. "Wasn't fully asleep, I guess."
Dream sighed.
"Asshole."
