To say things between Josiah and Viktor were complicated was an understatement. Something still pulled the cold-hearted doctor to take it upon himself to ensure Josiah does not suffer adversity and yet he couldn't come up with a logical explanation as to why.
All he knew was that, in his eyes, Josiah was the kindest man in the world, therefore he hated that life was anything but kind to him. Viktor believed in justice, so he made sure that Josiah was as happy as he could be.
Tonight, Viktor was in the infirmary, currently, fulfilling his role as the royal doctor.
"Well, your highness, you'll be pleased to know your child is developing as it should." Dr. Bloodfern said as he took out the stethoscope earbuds from his pointed ears. "I heard no complications in the heart rate and its life-force is growing as expected."
"Oh I'm so glad my baby's doing good." Artemis sighed in relief and made a gentle smile as he rubbed his belly. "I'm sorry to call you so out of the blue Dr. Bloodfern, I just wanted to make sure everything's fine. That nightmare I had where I lost the baby really freaked me out."
"It's nothing to apologize for, your highness. My job is to tend to you and your family on call at any time. Now, I'd advise you return to your chamber for some rest."
As Viktor wrapped up that sudden appointment, he decided to make his way to the gardens for his 5 o'clock smoke.
He often got judged for having such an unhealthy habit and being a doctor at the same time, but he could truly care less. Although he had to admit, lately he'd been doing it more often after this whole Josiah situation arose.
He just kept thinking over and over again of where this entire affair was going. Josiah had romantic feelings towards him, yes, but Viktor didn't. At most, he felt a duty to keep him from feeling down, and a strong sexual attraction to him, but nothing beyond that.
And yet there was this unnatural, emotional, strong pull that took him back to Josiah time and time again. If Viktor didn't know better, he'd mistake it as an incomplete mate bond. However, that wasn't possible as not only had he already used up his only lifelong bond, but Josiah didn't even have a predestined mate.
Serious interference would have to be done in order for that to happen.
While Viktor walked through the halls, he suddenly caught the sound of Josiah's voice.
"Perhaps if I showed you what I can do, then you wouldn't think I'm as naive as you think I am." Josiah said and Viktor furrowed his eyebrows as he inched closer.
"I'd be interested in seeing what the hands of a man like you could do." Another man's voice replied.
That dialogue and seeing a tall guard standing a little too close to Josiah gave Viktor enough information to make the wrong assumption about what was happening.
Well, he wasn't just about to stand there and watch as the guy he was sleeping with be flirted with by a measly guard.
Dr. Bloodfern marched to the scene with a deep scowl on his brow, jaws and fists clenched, and casually approached Josiah from behind.
"Meet me in my room." Viktor whispered out of the guard's earshot whilst he passed Josiah. But at seeing the guard shoot him a funny look, an unintentional growl escaped him along with the word: "Now."
Josiah tensed and looked behind himself only to see Bloodfern sprinting fast and away from then.
"Do excuse me." Josiah nodded to the guard and went after the doctor.
They reached his room rather quickly and as soon as the door closed, Viktor spat:
"Are you in an explorer mood or what Josiah? So you taste one man, and now you want to sleep with another one?!"
