Natasha's P.O.V

I can't wrap my mind around what happened. It all felt so surreal. I looked around the room as if searching for answers. Ace stood near the door with two men. One has dark brown hair and forest green eyes similar to Slade and Ace, in contrast to the other man's blond hair and blue eyes.

I looked at Slade, "What just happened?"

"We don't know, but we have an idea." I waited for him to explain this 'idea' but he didn't. Huh, that's it? Why isn't he elaborating more? Instead, he pointed to the green-eyed man first, "Meet our eldest brother, Callan, and next to him is Alpha Alaric Warren of the Warren pack."

Two more men entered. The man with grey eyes was all hard angles, bristled by the beard. But it was the other man who held my attention. He was of Ace's height, but where Ace was massive, this man is like a mountain, radiating power and dominance. He has mesmerising amber eyes, which glowed in contrast to the shoulder-long black hair framing his face. Something about him felt familiar.

"I am Ian Taggart, leader of the Taggart weres. And this is my first in command, Creed Taggart," he said, indicating to the man standing behind him.

"Natasha Shaw."

Even if I tried, I couldn't form more words. I was overwhelmed with what happened just minutes ago. My reactions were out of my control. And I don't like losing control. Ignoring everyone, I shifted my focus to one thing that always gives me balance, my work. I sat back down on my chair and started going through the reports. I could sense everyone still standing and waiting for something to occur.

As I was reading, a thought popped into my mind. According to the reports, the blood report showed nothing unusual, yet the children were conscious. I looked at Slade and asked, "Have you tested the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)?"

Slade gave me a look that said, 'really, you are going to ignore what just happened?' Mine said, 'you ignored it first'. I sound like my children.

"No, we did not test CSF. Why?"

"I have a theory, which may not be true, but it is a possibility."

Everyone sat down, and he sat down beside me. Out of all the chairs available, he has to sit right next to me. I can feel his piercing gaze on my face and have to stop myself from squirming in my seat. His proximity was making me very uncomfortable, so I kept my eyes on Slade and Jane.

"At this point, any theory is welcome," Jane remarked from her seat next to Slade.

"Since the blood reports are normal and they are still unconscious, there is a chance that their CSF might be infected. CSF is an important matrix present in the brain and spinal cord. If that gets infected or injected by any drug, the central nervous system will be affected. We can redo all the tests with CSF samples. However, I think the chances of infection are less because, with any infection, there are symptoms that occur. None of them is showing any symptoms. So there is a possibility of certain drugs injected directly in their CSF, which led to coma."

During my monologue, he shifted his chair closer to mine. Arrgh!

"Hmm, that's a possibility. But won't the drug's effect get over after a few hours? How can they still be in a coma?" Jane asked.

Of course, the drugs don't last in the body for 48 hours, let alone a week. We don't know whether they were even injected or not. We all went quiet and started going through the reports. At least Jane, Slade and I were going through them. I don't know what other guys were thinking. Or what were they even doing in the lab?

No matter how hard I try, his presence is like a constant blip on my radar.

"It's rude to stare at someone, so stop," I whispered without looking at him.
