"What other powers do you have, other than mind reading?" Ace asks Jay.
Instead of answering, Jay opened his palm, and the notepad in Slade's hand flew into his hand. Oh, Liam would be so jealous. Jay looks at me and grins, "I can't wait to show this off to Liam. He is going to be so jealous."
I grin back. "My thoughts exactly."
Looking back at Ace, he adds, "I have super strength, like you all. And my body can regenerate itself. I have had my finger cut off in a fight, and it grew back."
"Hmm, interesting. The other shifter couldn't regenerate," Slade remarks.
"I haven't come across anything that could kill me. I was stabbed in the heart, shot in the head, and once bitten by a poisonous snake. Nothing happened. My body healed, and my immune system neutralized the poison. I think beheading should work."
The men questioned him further about his fighting abilities as a human and the shifter. They discussed the similarities between shifters and werewolves. Aside from mind-linking and fully transforming into wolves, they share many characteristics. They planned out a regime to test Jay's abilities. I occupied myself with Slade's reports on Jay and the other shifter, making notes, and writing down the tests we could perform.
"Have you told the rugrats?"
Looking up, I find Jay sitting across me, arms folded on the table.
I nod. "Last night, I told them that we found you, and since you were injured, Ian had you taken to one of their pack doctors. I didn't share anything else."
He nods, his brow furrowing. "I have missed those troublemakers. Tell me about them. How have they been? What are they up to?"
I close the files and give him my full attention. I know how much he loves the children. Even when he was away, he made an effort to communicate with them as much as possible. So I told him everything he had missed. I told him about Liam's football matches, schoolwork, and drunken stunt, which made Jay laugh. I share my worry about Liam's college applications.
"He is still deciding on which college to attend. He is stalling if you ask me and I don't know why." I told him about Claire's academic achievements, the volunteering work she carries out at the shelter for the homeless, the ballet competition, and her preparation for the law entrance exam.
"Bri won the spelling-bee competition, and now she has decided she wants to be a teacher." I went to talk about the school play Bri has participated in and told him about children's tactics which had him crackling.
"And how's my baby?"
I scoff. "It is fine, Jay."
"I can't wait to get my hands on her," Jay says, making me chuckle. "I wish I could meet them."
Placing my hands on his arms, I say, "You will. They are eagerly waiting to meet their favourite uncle too." I show him their pictures and explained the backstory as well. Eventually, we drifted to various topics, and others joined in our conversation.

The week flew by as I split my time between home, hospital, and lab. Most days, Slade kept me updated on his progress. I wanted to go there and help Slade as much as I could, but Ian didn't want me to go to the Office every day. He said it was dangerous for me to be there, which led to our first argument.
"How can it be dangerous? Don't you have guards all around the place? You house every survivor, men, women, and children alike, so how can that place be dangerous?" I sputtered.
"Natasha, try to understand...."
"I am trying, but give me a good reason."
"Because I say so," Ian said, angrily, smashing his hand on the wall.
