Natasha's P.O.V
The moment Roz ushered me out of the hospital in haste, I knew something was not right. I repeatedly asked Roz to explain what happened and where Ian was, but he always replied, "Don't worry, Luna. This is just a precautionary measure. Alpha will be with us soon."
Cautionary step, my ass.
When I asked about the kids, he assured me Bane was getting them there as well. That did not ease my worries one bit.
Now, we are all gathered in the kitchen area of the Office preparing for dinner, along with the werewolves residing here. Most of whom were rescued from the Scythe laboratories and survivors of the Scythe attack. Initially, they were hesitant around us, but soon Claire and Bri started mingling and talking to everyone. I have been here once, but I have never interacted with any of the residents. It is clear to see that they have formed a small community for themselves, safe haven to heal.
"I have been feeling uneasy since afternoon, I don't know why," Claire, who is sitting in a chair beside me, says while cutting a carrot
"Uneasy how?" I give her my full attention accessing her with the doctor's eyes.
"I cannot explain it. It is like something is not right. I am feeling restless too."
Huh. I had the same feeling since morning. One of the elders of the Amazonian pack had once told me that if one of the mates is in danger, then the other mate can sense it through the mate bond, and werewolf mates are more sensitive to this than human mates. I am starting to realise that my uneasiness is because of Ian. Maybe, Claire is feeling the same because Creed is in the same situation as Ian. But, of course, I cannot be sure, since I have never felt anything like this before.
Not wanting to add to her worry, I simply say, "I think it must be because of today's event. Don't worry." I pat her hand and she looks convinced by the explanation.
"At least, Bri is having a great time," she says, glancing at Bri, who was playing with children of her age. Their laughter echoed through the room now and then, and their tactics draw chuckles from others.
Suddenly, a hush falls over the room, and everyone looks at the door. Claire and I turn around to see Ian's men making their way towards the kitchen. They made quite an impressive sight, tall, handsome, and muscular, they could make any women's heart melt and panties wet. But my focus is on the man in the lead. The imposing figure of Ian was hard to miss, walking with confidence he commands the air he breathes, even without saying a word he attracts everyone's attention.
He scans the area and within seconds his eyes find mine. His smouldering eyes never left my face, and just like that, I was relieved of the uneasiness, and the heaviness in my heart lifted.
"You alright?" I ask, as soon as he approaches. Like he was carving the touch, he immediately places his hand on my back and stands very close to me.
"Yes, love. Were you worried?"
"Nope." I shake my head.
"Liar," he smiles and kisses my head.
"I am alright too, in case anyone is interested," Jay says from behind Ian.
"I am happy to see everyone is okay," I say, smiling at him.
"Uncle Jay," Bri yells as she comes running towards us carrying her small backpack. Jay immediately bends down and picks her up, much to Bane's displeasure.
"Hey, buttercup. Did you miss me?"
Bri nods her head vigorously. It was a miracle she didn't bump Jay's nose or chin. She removes Jay's ring from her backpack and hands it to him. "Here, as promised."
