A long chapter, hope you all enjoy it!

That evening after dinner, Claire and Bri decide to watch a movie. Liam had called earlier to inform us that he won't be back tonight as they are doing some exciting work. I made a note to video call him before going to bed. Since I have a couple of hours to myself before I get Bri ready for bed, I go to my room to change and read a novel. It's been years since I have indulged in a novel.
As I step into the shower, my thoughts turn to Ian. He has been mysteriously absent since this afternoon. He wasn't there for lunch either. When I asked Creed, he said there was an emergency, and Ian was looking into it. I, better than anyone, understand emergencies, having worked at the hospital, but the strange part was that he didn't say anything to me. Ian usually meets me before leaving. Or am I expecting too much from him? I started to worry when he didn't return by evening, and now it's night, he still hasn't come back, and I am getting restless. I hope Ian is okay. Creed, Bane and the rest of the men seem to be going about their work, as usual, so he is not in danger. Right?
After talking to Claire today, I felt light-hearted. Everyone who knew about Alexander and me is either gone or far away, and I have been carrying the burden alone for all those years. Also, while I was talking to Claire, I realised that although I was hurt by Alexander's action, I had forgiven him long back.
Did I love him? Yes, I loved him wholeheartedly. He was my first love, the first person for whom I let my guard down and let him see who I was, my good, my bad, my lows, my highs, my crazy, and my seriousness. It takes time for anyone to open up, communicate and rely on another human being, but once we cross that threshold, everything is beautiful. And we had many beautiful moments and memorable adventures. Alexander's and my relationship was unique; it had innocence, and it helped both of us to find ourselves, emotionally and physically. We realised our strengths and weaknesses. He was an important part of my life.
Do I still love him? No. I loved him, but now I am not that girl anymore. I am not the person I was back when we were together. He is my past. Whereas Ian... Ian is my present and future. What I feel for Ian cannot be put into words.
My past made me cautious against trusting anyone with my heart. And now with the kids in the picture, I have to be more careful with whom I trust. My decision affects their lives equally. So, I rebuilt a wall around myself. But since the moment Ian came into my life, he has managed to knock down every inch of that wall. Liam, Claire and Bri have welcomed and accepted him as family.
Turning off the shower, I step out and dry myself. Wrapping a robe around me, I make my way towards the small walk-in wardrobe. I slip on a purple lace panty and an oversized t-shirt. As I am reaching for the PJ bottom, the door of my room bursts open. Startled, I turn around and see Ian walking towards me. No, stalking, he was stalking towards me. He doesn't slow down or stop as he picks me up with one hand and cradles my head with his other hand. I hold onto his shoulders for balance. He continues walking until my back touches the wall.
His eyes were switching between amber and yellow as he stared intensely into my eyes.
"Ian?"
He growls and slams his lips on mine. Time stops when his lips touch mine. Ian has always been gentle with me, but this time he was demanding. I shudder, which makes him growl in satisfaction. Sparks of pleasure shoot through me as he deepens the kiss, making me moan.
Oh, how much have I missed him! My earlier thoughts and feelings were still raw, and I needed to talk to him, but at the moment, I stopped thinking and went with my primary instinct. Talk can wait.
