Iyahna's P.O.V.

I couldn't believe Ivan forgot about me. Now, I didn't know how to get to Ms. Kwan's class. In the hallway, nearby, Ashley attempted to talk to Paige and her entourage. Ashley had a desperate look in her eye. She desperately wanted to explain herself.

"Paige, please", Ashley pleaded.

"I have nothing to say to you, Ash", Paige glared, crossing her arms.

I approached the both of them shyly. I took a deep breath. Here it goes.

"Excuse me, sorry to interrupt, but can one of you show me the way to Ms. Kwan's class", I asked sheepishly.

"I can. Let's go", Paige said.

"Maybe Ashley can take me there, if you don't feel up to it", I stated, quite intimidated by Paige's demeanor.

"Hun, don't be stupid, I wouldn't leave you here with this snake for not one second." Paige pulled me along with her.

I looked back towards Ashley, and begged her with my eyes to help me.  Paige let go of my arm, and looked back towards where I was looking.

"Did she tell you about what she called me last year? Her behavior sucked. I don't want you to have to go through what I experienced with her", Paige rolled her eyes.

"No, she didn't, but people can change, Paige", I defended.

"You weren't there. I'm only trying to protect you, but if you want to befriend Emo girl Kerwin, be my guess", Paige walked ahead of me.

I sped up to Paige, and followed her into Ms. Kwan's class. I took my seat in the back. Ms. Kwan had a small smile on her face, as she turned from the chalkboard.

"Hello students. Welcome back, and some of you welcome here. I see we have some new students here this school year. I hope all of you had a wonderful Summer", Ms. Kwan stated calmly. "Preposition. Who can tell me what that is?"

A guy in the front raised his hand, and Ms. Kwan called on him. "Haven't we learned this last year?" He said in a sly tone.

"Preposition. Anyone else?" Ms. Kwan asked.

Paige raised her hand, and Ms. Kwan nodded at her to go ahead.

"Preposition shows the location or direction of a noun or pronoun. For example, be careful when you get invited by a snake to their party, because you might just get bitten BY them", Paige smiled innocently.

I looked behind me towards Ashley, and she looked like she was going to break down. In that moment, I wanted to comfort her, but I just turned back around in my seat.

Just then, Ivan, and that Craig guy from Media Immersion came in.

"Good job, Paige. Gentlemen, you're late", Ms. Kwan pointed to her watch.

"Sorry. We had trouble finding our way here", Craig swallowed.

"Have a seat boys", Ms. Kwan instructed. "It's a good thing you didn't miss too much. We were just on the topic of prepositions, and Paige here, gave an interesting example of it."

A few minutes later, Ms. Kwan passed out worksheets to us. Almost the whole class groaned. When the bell rang, I stood up, and made sure to stay close to Ivan this time.

He didn't even recognize me, because he was talking to Craig. I tried to get his attention, but he was preoccupied. After giving up, I walked to the girls' washroom. I heard small sniffles come from one of the stalls. I battled with myself on whether to ignore it, or investigate.

"Hey, are you alright in there?" I spoke softly, approaching one of the stalls.

"Yes. I'm just having a really hard time", the mystery voice replied back.

"What it be okay if I asked what with?" I asked, sitting down on the hard bathroom floor.

"It just sucks how my first day of school is going", the mystery voice said. "Maybe, if I had a fairy Godmother to fix this sticky situation I've gotten myself caught up in."

"I'll be your fairy Godmother. I could bippoty boppoty you up", I joked.

"My life needs bippoty boppotying up. I'm a mess." The voice came. "Don't ever try drugs. It ruins your life!"

There was rage in the mystery girl's voice. It sounded like she'd kicked something down in the stall. She began to sob again.

"I wasn't planning on it", I replied sarcastically.

"I'm serious. You have to promise you won't", the mystery voice said.

"I promise", I sighed. "I never thought I'd promise something to a stranger, who I don't even know looks like."

"I know I'm a stranger, but you have to trust me on this. Do you hear the pain in my voice", the mystery girl cried.

I extended my hand out into the stall for her to take it.

"I'm here for you. I am", I assured her. "You're not alone."

She took my hand, and held it tightly. I stared down at my watch, and realized we were late for our next class.

"I'm sorry to interrupt this moment, but we are so late for our next class", I said. "What's your name? I might catch you in the halls sometime."

"Ashley", the girl responded.

"Wait, Ashley from English class?" I asked.

Ashley opened the stall door, and her eyes looked all puffy and red. She walked past me, and stared at herself in the mirror.

"I look terrible", Ashley freaked. "I need to go grab my makeup kit."

I followed Ashley out of the girls washroom. She walked to her locker, and grabbed her makeup kit.

Back in the girls' washroom, Ashley applied some mascara on her bottom lid.

"You don't need that", I stated.

"Yes I do! I look like a zombie", Ashley scoffed.

"A pretty zombie", I commented. "I bet the boys wouldn't mind if you ate their brains. That's only if they have any."

"Yeah, a pretty zombie, and apparently a snake too", Ashley laughed a little.

Silence fell over the washroom. To cut the tension, I spoke up.

"Can I try? I've never worn mascara before", I stated.

"Sure", Ashley nodded. She watched me, as I attempted to apply the mascara on.

"How do I do this?" I asked.

"There's no right or wrong way to do it. Just go crazy, and see what works for you", Ashley told me.

"Got it", I replied.

For the rest of the period, Ashley and I fooled around a bit with the supplies in her makeup kit.

"We should get to our next class", I suggested.

"Yeah we should", Ashley agreed.

Once Ashley placed her makeup kit back in her locker, we headed to our next class.
