Tom was ready for work and walked over to the elevator. There was a "out of order" sign in front of it.He groaned and walked with hurried steps over to the stairs. He did not want to be late.
His apartment was at least 15 minutes a way, but sometimes he wakes up late. This was one of those time.
He only got half of the required research done and needed to talk to a coworker of his for field research permission.

Tom managed to clock in two seconds before he was late. He stuff his lunch box in his locker and headed over to his cubicle.
There were perks to being on the marketing team, one being on a lower floor so walking next door to the cafe is easy.
Which is why he was greeted with a cup on his desk as his coworker next to him ate a bagel.
"Thanks for the coffee, I owe you one.", he said.
"It's no problem, you are only person who is the nicest to me.", he said.
"Uh, that is not a good thing.", said Tom.
He wasn't a friendly person and he barely managed to get the job because of it. He also tended to be rude.
"I know, but it's something.", his coworker started to type on his computer with the bagel in his mouth.
Tom noticed his coworker had a blue tie and he looked down at his. His tie was checkered in black and white.
Tom logged onto his computer and realized he didn't bring his laptop to work. He searched his pockets for his flash drive until he remembered they were on a lanyard around his neck.
He sighed and shifted his chair back. He stood up and took a sip of his hot coffee before heading over to a different department.
He went up a floor and walked over to a closed office.
"Come in!", said a voice.
Tom opened the door and greeted the head of the research department.
"Hey Tom! How can I help you?", asked the department head.
"Hello Laurel, I'd like permission to do field research for this assessment on The Scarlet Records.", stated Tom.
Laurel scratched her chin before swiveling her chair to the right to type on her computer. Tom waited for her to finish.
"Sure thing! I just need you and your supervisor to sign these papers", Laurel opened a cabinet next to her and laid out three papers, " then we need to pick a time period and have you call at some point."
Tom nodded and thanked her before taking the papers and walking out of her office.
Tom passed a man with a red tie. Tom nodded to him and the man nodded back before going their own ways.

"Hey Tom! Going to do over time again?", asked his coworker, Edd."Hm, hopefully not.", joked Tom as he passed his cubicle.
Tom walked over his coworkers foot as they looked in a mirror. He shook his at their careless nature.
Soon enough, Tom has his permission to do field research.
