At this point, Eddie was laughing like a maniac.
"I'm not joking, Eddie." When he looked over, Nick looked like he was about to cry. "You're not kidding?" Eddie said, now serious.
"No, I'm not kidding. Imagine that, I'm a freak." Nick let out a hurt chucke. Eddie leaned in a bit closer to him. "I'm sorry. I didn't know." Nick smiled shyly, "I think that was the point."
Eddie smiled. "Yeah, I guess so." He outstretched his arms, "Can I hug you?" Nick blushed lightly before responding with. "Of course"
Eddie pulled Nick into a tight, reassuring hug. "Thanks for telling me, man." Nick nodded into his shoulder. "I just thought you would understand. I noticed.. You were like me." Eddie pulled away from the hug and laughed a bit. "Really? Did this give me away?" He said while holding up the black hanky in his right pocket. (WE'RE GONNA PRETEND ITS HIS RIGHT POCKET CUZ I WANT HIM TO BE A BOTTOM) "Yeah, I guess so, Munson" Nick replied with a punch on Eddies arm. "Man, now I'm a little embarrassed" laughed Eddie. Nick joined in on the laughter.
"Hey but, I have a question. Well, two questions." Eddie blurted. "hm? what is it?" answered Nick. "Well, first question, why did you tell me? We're not very close. You could've told Henderson, or someone you trusted in your sports group thing."
Nick thought for a moment. "I don't really know. I guess, I knew you'd understand? And I don't really trust anyone on my team, they're all assholes. As for Dusty, I just haven't gotten the courage to tell him yet. Deep down, I know he'll support me. It's still just... scary. You know?" Eddie gave him a reassuring smile and a pat on the head. "Then, thank you for telling me."
He paused for a moment. "But my second question, why are you so worried about being 'popular'? It's not all that bad being an outcast, you know. I guess, you do get bullied. But you can actually be yourself. And, you have real friends that genuinely care about you. Because, let's face it man, even though you're popular, anyone with a set of eyes that looks close enough can tell you're just a lost little sheep. It took me a while to figure it out, but I finally did. So, just, stop pretending to be something you're not. Ok, Ford?"
Nick gave him a nervous smile. "I'll sure try." Eddie patted him on the head once more. "That's what I like to hear. Cmon, I'll drive you home." Nick looked out the window for only a second, then said, "That's perfect, I walked to school today."
Nick gave Eddie his address and he began to drive him home. On the way, they talked and laughed about whatever stupid thing came up in conversation.
"I wonder what will happen tomorrow" they thought.
