Description:They've always been more than friends, but less than lovers. Jaxx is tired of it..

Sora had broken up with someone again.

Jaxx didn’t know if he was tired of it.

He didn’t even know the name of the guy this time, he had lost track of Sora’s multiple talking stages since a long time ago.

“He broke up with me over text, over fucking text. Honestly, what the fuck did I even see in him?” Sora’s voice is hoarse as he continues ranting, sprawled on his back in Jaxx’s lap. He’d stopped crying (for now), but Jaxx’s hand was still running through his hair anyway. Sora liked that, he always did.

Sometimes Jaxx liked to think he knew Sora better than any of his exes did.

“What the fuck you saw in him? Maybe his ugly hair? His disgusting personality? Or maybe how he ditched you on your second date to hang out with his friends?” Jaxx was trying his best to lighten the mood. He was good at distracting Sora with sarcastic jokes.

It was starting to feel like a vicious cycle: Sora would break up, drive over to Jaxx's place at three (sometimes four) in the morning, cry over it for an hour, go on a rant about it for (hopefully just) another hour, then he would eventually tire himself out, fall asleep in Jaxx lap, and the older would have to haul him into the guest bedroom to let him spend the night.

“I’m pretty sure it was our third date, and besides, he made it up to me by buying me flowers.”

“Not the point, those flowers died less than a week later. I bet he plucked them off some random bush in his neighbourhood park.”

“Yeah, but they were still flowers, and they meant something.”

“Meant what? His shitty attitude towards ditching you on a date to hang out with friends? He was a red flag from the very beginning, Sora.”

“Shut up, I can’t believe I was attracted to a walking red flag.”

“Noted, Sora.”

They go quiet for a bit, Jaxx still running his hand through Sora's hair.

“Jaxx, thanks for doing this.”

“I’m used to it, but sure, no problem.”

“No, really. Thank you for doing this, you’re the best.”

“If I’m really the best then you should stop dating men who don’t give two shits about you, I’m literally right here,” Jaxx tries to say it jokingly, but his voice trembles.

“Yeah, right. Like I’ll ever date you, dumbass.” Sora grins and stretches his arms up over his head, yawning. Jaxx knows he’s joking.

In some strange way it hurts him even more to know Sora doesn’t mean it.

“You’re tired, we should sleep.” Jaxx gets off the couch abruptly, causing Sora to slip off his lap with a yelp.

“I’m not carrying you like I did the last time, you’re walking on your own.”

Sora mumbles something under his breath, to which Jaxx effectively ignores. He gets off his spot on the floor and shuffles after Jaxx into the spare bedroom, flopping onto the bed with his face down. Jaxx flips him around, earning himself a glare from Sora.

“Don’t look at me like that, go to sleep.” Jaxx grabs a nearby blanket and tosses it to Sora. He was exhausted, and frankly all he really wanted to do was crawl under his covers to hibernate for the rest of the night. Jaxx turns to leave the room, but a hand creeps up on his wrist and holds him in place.
