Kanao smiled as she exited the bakery, cake box in hand. She felt a lot better about everything, now that they'd at least tried to talk some of their feelings through.
But there was still so much to discuss. So many questions Kanao wanted to ask.
Such as - "what happened to your arm?"
Kanao wasn't stupid. She'd noticed the extreme caution he excersied around that arm. Something was really wrong, and she desperately wanted to know. Desperately wanted to help. But they'd only just started to reconnect. They were still awkward and shy around one another, especially after that horrible break-up.
Both were guilty. Both weren't sure how to talk to the other properly.
Still, seeing Tanjiro's smile again had helped her. Kanao hadn't realised how much she missed that smile until she saw it.
Goodness he was amazing.
Kanao loved him so much, that the feeling actually frightened her. It frightened her the same way it did when she first found out her feelings. Only now, she was terrified something similar to their break-up would happen again.
Kanao shivered and walked down the street. Best not to think of such things right now.
When she reached her sister Aoi's house, she heard voices inside. Taking a deep breath in, Kanao reached up and knocked.
As expected, she heard screeches and several exclaimations of "KANAO'S HERE!"
As she waited patiently, Kanao shifted the box from one hand to the other and looked around. The rough wooden porch hadn't changed, even though Aoi had mentioned painting it. It was still worn and rustic. The old-fashioned lantern near the front door added to the affect, and Kanao found herself glad Aoi hadn't painted the porch yet.
It was nicer this way.
With a bang, the door opened. Kanae stood there, a ridiculous grin on her face. She looked as pretty as ever, all be it a bit disheveled. She wore a black mini dress with a long sleeve purple shirt beneath. Her hair, which was usually done in some neat but elaborate updo, had several strands coming out of it. Shinobu and Aoi were right behind her.
Kanao barely had time to open her mouth before all of them were on her with squeals of welcome.
"Oh my gosh, Kanao we missed you!" Kanae screeched, hugging her fiercely.
"Ah! You finally decided to show!" Shinobu cried, ruffling her hair.
"Alright, get off your poor sister!" Aoi shouted, trying to wretch her older sisters off poor Kanao.
When they finally let go, all stood back with huge grins on their faces. It truly had been a while since they'd been together, and Kanao was glad to see them. Even if she preferred not to be crushed to death.
Aoi stepped forward and gave Kanao a gentle hug, just the way she liked it.
"Hello, Kanao. Come in, dinner is almost ready. I have snacks made while we wait," she added.
Kanao nodded. Of course Aoi had lots of food. She was used to feeding people large amounts of food. First with her sisters, then with Inosuke - he usually ate even more than all of them combined.
Kanao took off her shoes and was about to go into the house when Kanae looked curiously at the box in her hands.
"Is that cake?" She asked. Kanao nodded and Kanae grinned even wider. "I'll take it for you!"
Kanao rolled her eyes. Of course she would. She handed the box to Kanae before walking forward. Moving to go into the house, she was stopped by a shriek of outrage behind her.
