My Forbidden Mate

Chapter 14

I sat with Gabe in that diner for about 2 hours before I finally decided I should head back. The last thing I need is for Jackson to find us together and go all if I can't have you no one can on us.

I thought about our conversations on the way back to the house. Apparently there's a vampire clan not to far from the pack house. About a two hour drive, which for a werewolf or vampire is basically only an hour if we run in our respective forms. Apparently we live similar lives it seems. His father is the leader of their group. And he also has a older brother that everyone seems to like much more.

I told him I'm only here for a couple months, until my sisters wedding to Alpha Jackson. He knew of him but said he's never actually met him. I left out the very small detail of him being my mate of course.

I'm almost to the pack house so I switch into my human form so I can walk the rest of the way. I get a text on my phone and look to see Gabes name flashing. We exchanged numbers at the diner. I figured if I'm going to be here for two months I should at least be open to making some friends.

Hey Alison, it's gabe... idk why I said that considering I watched you put my contact and name in your phone so obviously you know it's me.🥴 Anyways I just wanted to tell you I had a lot of fun and I'm glad we are friends, we are friends right? I'm not sure if we actually agreed on that or not now that I think of it🤔

I can't help but laugh as I read his texts. He's so very... unexpected. I'm still smiling when I walk into the pack house, and immediately am hounded by guards, Sabrina, and Jackson. Sabrina sighs with relief and envelopes me in a hug. "Alison where have you been? We have been calling you and texting you for 3 hours."

I look at my phone and my phone starts to go off with multiple notifications of said calls and texts. I show it to her as my form of evidence when I say, "I went for a run and ended up at a diner about an hour away and stopped in for food. I must have lost signal. I just got it back when I got close enough to the pack house."

Her shoulders slump and relax as she backs up. "Well, I guess next time just let me know your leaving, so I don't worry, or let Jackson know at least." She then leans over to him and touches his arm in what seems to be genuine gratitude. "Jackson was so kind to me, he was just about to let out an entire league of his best trained men to sniff out your scent. Thank you Jackson for entertaining my ridiculous amount of worry so much that you would send your men out to calm me down." She then leans up to him and... I can't even look away as she kisses him in front of me. And, I watch as he slowly kisses her back. He pulls away quickly and she walks away almost immediately.
Everyone else has already seemed to walk away. Now it's just me and Jackson and we continue to stare at each other in silence. I clear my throat, "Well I'm gonna go up to my room, so, bye."
And without another word I walk away. I get into my room quickly trying to avoid eye contact with anyone as I try to hold back my tears.

I can't help but feel betrayed. By my sister and my mate which sounds stupid even to my own ears because how the hell would she know how seeing them kiss just completely tore me apart. He kissed her back. No hesitation.

How am I going to stand by and watch them have a wedding and mating ceremony if I can't even handle a small kiss. I pull out my phone as I sit down on my bed and text Gabe: I had fun too. And yes we are friends :)

After hitting send I start looking through all the notifications Sabrina left me while I was gone. Then I scroll down and see messages from Jared : I know about you and Jackson. I'm sorry kid. If you need to talk you know where to find me.
That one must have been from last night, because the rest of the messages from him are asking where I went, and if I'm ok.

My stomach does a little jump when I see that Jackson texted me too. Where are you? My men can't track your scent anywhere on the property.

I roll my eyes. Of course he had his men tracking me. I continue reading and my heart hurts.
I'm sorry for last night. I'm sorry for all of it. Please come back I need to know your safe.

And then nothing. I'm rereading the texts over and over in my head when suddenly the three dots pop up on my phone telling me he's typing. I wait patiently my stomach in nots nervous of what he's going to say. But he never sends it. The dots disappear after 5 minutes.

I try to ignore the disappointment that flutters up. I should be relieved he didn't text me, that he decided against it. What's he going to say? Nothing that will make this situation better I know that. He signed a contract with another alpha. I'm not completely sure what's on the line if he breaks it but knowing my father it's probably along the lines of murder and revenge.

Wow I really don't miss home. Besides my friends who I've been texting on and off throughout my time here there's nothing to miss at home. With me and Ben over there's nothing keeping me there besides Tana and Josh. And my fathers need to control me, of course. He will never let me leave and it doesn't matter anyways because I have no where to go. After the wedding I'm going home. And I'll be alone in that house with him all over again. Except this time I won't have the promise of finding my mate and him taking me away from my father. That's traditionally the only way females are allowed to leave there pack. Most packs wont take in a lone female from another pack.

So I'm stuck with my fathers pack. But I'm 18 now and I can get my own place in town. Maybe Jackson will give me a job working around the pack house. If I can save up enough and work enough maybe I can start moving out as soon as I get home.

I decide that I'll seek him out after wedding planning with my sister tomorrow morning. I could do it now but after everything the last couple days and earlier... ye I think it's better to wait until tomorrow to bring it up.
