Starting a mini fire, Jacob lit the lantern and picked it up—lighting up the void of darkness that surrounded the three. He stances himself in front of Zarina who carried Maisie on her back. the poor girl trembling in her spot with her hands gripping onto Zarina's bandana that remained wrapped around her head. Jacob directed the lantern at the darkness around; sharp teeth surrounded them and the smell was atrocious.

A growl fumbled in the beasts mouth and they spun around, Maisie's arms tightened around Zarina. "Are we gonna die in here?" She quietly squeaked. the woman lowered herself down, allowing Maisie to sit down in front of her while Jacob took a seat beside Zarina. "No. Of course not, Maisie." Zarina reassured, a soft smile plastered over her tan face. she reached a hand over to brush the wet curly strands away from maisie's face before cupping the side of her face. the motherly act earning a adoring look in jacob's eyes.

Maisie's body tensed up after hearing another growl coming from within the beast. "Well, yeah." Jacob added nonchalantly, earning a jab on the side from Zarina.

The little one frowned and pulled her knees to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. "Is it gonna chew us, or will we get digested slowly with acids?" she asked the two hunters, the couple sharing a look.

Zarina's lips lifted into a half smile, trying to ease the little ones pain. she rested her elbows on her knees, saying, "We don't know, Maisie. This is all new territory for us. We kill 'em, we don't study 'em. But, you know, there's a start for everything though." she flicked her eyes over to jacob, who nodded his head, agreeing with her.

"Zarina is right. now, come on, love. i have a plan." standing up right, jacob tied the end of the rope around her waist, his eyes mainly focusing on her face as she lowered her chin. once he finished, he reached for her hand. his rough fingers interlocking with hers slowly, for some reason, he felt a wave of confident rush through him when she didn't pull away. let him tell him off. instead, she just stood there, her eyes focused on their intertwined hands. this was the first time jacob had seen the woman so silent. "it's gonna be alrigh', sunshine."

the sound of his calm voice pulled her out of her head, finally meeting with his gaze. her eyes stared into his for a moment. she would never admit it, but just by looking into his eyes, she felt a little less anxious. "i know." she whispered, squeezing his hand to tell him she was truly alright. jacob smiled, relieved to see that she was fighting through it. he held her hand for a bit longer until he turned back around. Zarina handed Maisie the lantern to light the way from above, while sliding out her dagger.
