"Angel...."
My heart quickened at the voice. I slowly turned until my dark grey eyes met with the green eyes of my long lost friend.
A little girl, around 5, sat on the deck reading quite a complicated book for her age. Her mother had told her to play outside with the other children. The girl had tried, but once again they didn't even notice her.
"Hey! Watcha reading?" Said a voice suddenly. Startled, the girl looked up quickly to find a boy her age staring right at her.
"Um.... A book about dragons...." The girl said quietly. She didn't understand this strange child. Why was he talking to her? She couldn't possibly be interesting-looking.
"Oh! That's so cool! I can't read yet, but when I do, can i borrow that book?" The boy said with an enthusiastic voice. This sparked an interest in the girl. Someone else likes to read? She studied him closer. The boy light brown hair and grass green eyes and was just a little bit taller then the girl. "Hey... I don't believe I know your name! What is it?" He asked, interrupting her observing.
"Uh... Angel..." Angel replied unsure if this was some kind of a joke.
"Cool! Mines Aiden! Its spelt like 'Ay-den' but it's pronounced 'Eye-den'." Aiden replied, beaming with pride.
'What is with this boy?'Angel thought. 'Why is he even still talking to me?'
"So, what are dragons like?" The boy asked with absolute curiosity.
"They're scary but cool at the same time. There's also a lot of different kinds of dragons!" Angel said quietly, but getting used to talking to Aiden.
"Really? Do you have a favorite?" Aiden said excitedly.
"A favorite?" Angel asked surprised. This boy actually cared. "Well, I'd say it'd have to be the super rare Fallen Shadow. Oh, some books call it the Night Fury and Midnight Chaos. But I like the name Fallen Shadow best." Angel was surprised she spoke so many words.
"Really? I like Night Fury. What are the other dra-" Aiden was cut short by a voice in the distance. "That's my mother. I'll see you tomorrow I guess" Aiden smiled and walked away, waving.
3 years later.
"Oh, Angel. Hello. Aiden's up in his room if you want to talk to him. He also has something to tell you" said Aiden's mom at the door. Angel stepped in the house carefully. Expensive shields and swords lined the narrow hallway. Angel navigated the house as though it was hers. In a matter of two left turns and a flight of stairs, Angel found the door to Aiden's room. It was covered in drawings of dragons that she and Aiden drew. Taking a deep breath, Angel gently knocked.
"Hello?" Aiden's voice said quietly from inside the room. This worried Angel greatly.
"Aiden, it's me. Can I come in?" Angel replied.
"Angel? Uh yeah. Hold up." Aiden said. Angel could hear shuffling around for a few seconds and then an unlocking of the door.
'Aiden locking doors? Not good.' Angel thought. A crack in the door opened to reveal an extremely upset face. "Aiden! What happened?" Angel exclaimed, her worry tripling.
"Come in. I'll tell you." Aiden said sadly. The two children sat on the bed, just staring in silence for what seemed like hours but was only a few seconds. "I-I'm leaving" Aiden whispered so quietly, Angel almost didn't hear.
"W-what? What do you mean leaving?" Angel cried.
"My mom found out that one of her family members lives in the nearby village. She wants to see them."
"No... Bring me some with you! My mom won't mind!"
"Angel... You know I'd do anything for you, but this isn't even my choice. Her cousin doesn't have enough money to afford another person. He can hardly afford to feed us"
"I'll work! I-I won't eat!" Angel cried. 'No.... He can't leave me'
"Angel..." He brought his hand up to her face. "I love you. I know that I probably have no idea what I'm talking about but I don't care. I'm going to miss you so much" Angel started crying. She was going to lose her best friend. Her only friend.
"I-I love you too" She said through waterfalls of tears. Aiden smiled.
"Alright. Let's spend the last few days together. I leave Tuesday."
"I thought you left...." Angel whispered.
"No... My mothers cousin turned out to be a jerk and wasn't even her cousin. So we tried to live in that village but he ruined out reputation. We returned here and I was so excited that I could see you again, but it turns out you ran away. I was only gone 2 weeks" Aiden explained.
"They noticed?" Angel said, slowly regaining the ability to speak.
Aiden sighed. "No, but I did. When I pointed it out, your mom said it was all her fault and almost went crazy. She does love you. 100% sure."
I gestured to her still body. "Did" At my word, Aiden hugged me again.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make any of this happen."
"It's not your fault. You're here now. I'm not alone anymore." I said. Wait I never was alone... I had Serenity.... "I have another human friend. Come. I need you to meet someone"
