A safer place

chapter three

They spent a rather fun time at the arcade, but Max soon noticed Billy was getting more and more fuzzy, and she assumed he was slipping deeper into his headspace.
The boy had a harder time acting big than when they had arrived, and the last thing they needed was everyone seeing Billy be little.

So the girl pulled her brother aside, looking worried at him.
„Bills, what's wrong bug?" she asked, smiling reassuringly at him.
„Am tired sissy" the other whined, making Max coo at him in awe, not being able to stop smiling at how adorable he was.

„Well then we're going home sweetheart. Do you want to use your tickets to get a toy from the prize counter before?" she asked, and Billy nodded while rubbing his eyes, handing her the tickets and walking after her as she pushed through the mob of kids in the building.

„Alright, choose something" Max told her brother, who let his eyes wander over the different prizes.
„Max, can I have that one please?" he whispered, pointing at a remote controlled car.

„Yeah sure Billy, let me get it for you- Hey, Sir? I'd like that car over there" Max said, putting their tickets on the counter.
The man working grabbed them with a groan, as if it took all of his life strength to work, and gave them the car.

The redhead grabbed the box and Billy's hand, pulling him outside.
„Okay bug, do you want me to carry it?" she smiled, and Billy nodded softly.
They walked back to their place, Billy having slight trouble to walk without stumbling so Max steadied him with a hand at his arm.

Once they were inside, Billy whined, kicking off his shoes and dropped right on the hallway floor.

„Awh, are you tired sweetheart? Let's get you in some comfy clothes and then you can take a nap, alright?" Max cooed, taking off her jacket and storing the skateboard behind the clothing rack.

Billy whined quietly, making grabbing motions up towards her.
„Sweetheart I'm sorry, I can't pick you up..." she apologised, feeling horrible at the sight of her brother being sad.

The blond let out another whine, and then got up.
He stumbled over to the couch, looking at her as he fell down.
„Cuddles?" he whined, and Max came over to him to sit down as well.

„Sure sweetheart, we can cuddle. Come here big boy" she said, opening her arms for him.
Billy took the invite, laying down in her arms and cuddling up to her, a thumb finding it's way into his mouth.

Max cooed softly, stroking over his blond locks, twisting the surprisingly soft hair between her fingers.
Soon, Billy fell asleep on her lap, sucking on his thumb.

The redhead would've preferred if he had gotten his pacifier before falling asleep, since the games at the arcade probably weren't too sanitary, but with Billy's weight on her body, she couldn't get it now either.

But somehow, as if some higher power heard her thinking about it, Billy rolled off of her, sighing into the pillows.
Max quickly got up, hushing into her brothers room and pulling the pacifier out of his box, which they hadn't put away earlier. She also placed the cars back inside, together with Billy's new one.

Then she went back into the living room, sitting down on the couch again and softly pulling the others thumb out of his mouth, replacing it with the dark red pacifier.
It immediately started bobbing between Billy's lips as he used it.
Max smiled softly at the sight, grabbing her polaroid camera off the couch table, where she had put it the day prior after being out with the party.

She snapped a photo of Billy, sleeping peacefully and shook it, careful to not move to much to avoid waking the other.
It developed quickly, making her coo in awe.
It was absolutely adorable, and she put both the picture and the camera back on the table.

While Billy was sleeping, Max busied herself with a book of her mothers that had laid on the couch.
It was rather boring, but it kept her from moving too much, so she didn't care too much.

After a few hours, the redhead got up to prepare dinner for the two of them, since it was getting late and she wanted to make sure Billy ate before she would wake him up to get into his bed.
Max grabbed another plastic container from the fridge her mother had left them, and heated them up.

Neither of the beeping microwave, nor the plates and cutlery clanking onto the table as Max placed them managed to wake Billy, so she went over to him and gently shook his shoulder.
The boy opened his eyes with a groan, pacifier still in his mouth, and sat up.

His eyes widened a little when he felt the rubber on his tongue, and he quickly ripped it out in embarrassment.
Max chuckled slightly, taking it from his hand.

„It's okay, don't be embarrassed. I made dinner" she smiled, watching Billy get up.
„When did you-?" he whispered, pointing at the red piece of plastic in her hand.

„A bit after you fell asleep, I didn't want you to get sick from arcade germs" she shrugged, placing it onto the table.
It was then, Billy noticed the picture of him laying next to the camera, and he quickly snatched it to get a better look of it.

„Don't worry" Max laughed „I wasn't planning on showing that to anybody. You just looked so sweet, I had to" she smiled, rolling her eyes at the death stare Billy shot in her direction.

„Come on now, the food is getting cold" she said, walking over to the table.
Billy followed after her, sitting down and started eating without looking at her again.

„Hey, are you alright?" Max asked, worried about her brother being so quiet.
„Yeah I'm fine, just...thank you for today. It was nice" he whispered, and Max smiled.

„Sure thing, we can do that more often if you want to. You're not as annoying when you're actually being nice to me and the others" she giggled, taking a bite from the steak on her plate.

Billy chuckled as well, a sound that was pretty unfamiliar to her when he was big, but it was nice to interact like family for once.
Max hoped they would get to do it more often, especially now that they had found a way to deepen their relationship.

now that we've had a start at this, I'll continue the book as oneshots as they're easier than writing another story xD
