Gray filed through a list of needed supplies for his continued mission and could still hear Micah's muffled screams in the back of trunk bed. It was stressful enough he had to fend for himself and Vic but now Micah? What's next a dog? Gray let out a sigh and rubbed his temples with his dirt covered fingers. He had to know why this mysterious figure kept reappearing in his life. What was the Skull Face trying to take over the White Bone region? Gray tucked the papers into his pocket and turned to look through the dirty rear window. Vic was sitting with her legs crossed in font of Micah and proceeded study his features. She examined his hair and then looked at his eyes, one was blue and the other brown. Gray scanned Vic's face, she seemed flushed maybe with curiosity or maybe attraction. Gray knocked on the window and Vic quickly turned to see Gray looking at her. She let out an embarrassed giggle and reached up to scratch the back of her shaggy hair, she wondered if he noticed her watching the boy. Micah fascinated her, he was handsome, even though he was dirty, dressed in rags and smelled of must. Vic quickly stuck her head through the tiny window that lead inside the truck and flashed a toothy grin at Gray.
"What can I do for ya chap?" she asked as Gray turned on the trucks engine. Gray turned to see that it was getting later and the stars were already at its highest.
"We need to get going but we still need our supplies. Take care of Micah in the back til we get home." Gray turned away and drove until he had the stars in his eyes.
It was nearly dawn and both Vic and Micah were knocked out in the back of the truck. Gray carried them inside the comforts of his home and placed Vic in the second bedroom. She was sound asleep, he looked at her face, her features still looking like a child. He tucked her into bed and quickly placed a kiss on her dirty covered forehead. Gray felt a warmth in his heart when it came to Vic, he was starting to get used to her presence. She seemed to fill a void inside his worn out heart that he thought wasn't able to get comfortable with anybody. He made his way to the floor by the front door where he had placed Micah, his skinny body sprawled across the floor as he snored lightly. His hair brushed across his sleeping eyes and his freckled cheeks. Gray lifted him and plopped him on the couch and Micah didn't even seem to notice as he snored away. Gray took out the supplies from his truck that he had just bought from a nearby supplier. It wasn't cheap either. He grabbed the ammo for his guns and parts needed for an engine he planned to fix. Gray placed all the parts in side his small garage and checked on the kids. Still asleep. Gray grabbed his keys, guns, coffee, and sped in truck back to the junk yard from earlier. He had to scope the place for more clues as to where the Skull Face may be residing.
After a long drive he made his way inside the smelly junk yard as the sun was barely rising. The heat was already beginning to blaze on his long jacket and the sweat began to drip from the shaved sides of his head. Gray wiped his forehead and walked around to yesterdays scene. The gravel and broken glass from the crushed cars crunched underneath his feet and his mind was alert for any kind of danger. The bodies were still there, large crows pecking at the rotting plagued flesh of the Infected, and waved them off as they flew into the air. He put on his gloves as well as placed a cloth over his mouth as the foul stench grew stronger as he leaned over the dead bodies. As he rummaged through the bodies he found a small tag on one the bodies shirt. The tag had a name that read Dave , Gray looked at the fine print that read Green Stem Inc., Los Angeles. He furrowed his brows and tried remembering the name, he vaguely remembered the it. It was a company in charge of the used-to-be-new form of "clean energy". They were in charge of using nuclear power to energize large cities that used great amounts of electricity. However that nuclear energy soon began to be used to power nuclear weapons far more powerful than the 20th century. Which soon led to the usage of the bombings in the war, it was total chaos.
As Gray was continuing to examine the body and his important finding he heard the crunching of gravel close behind him. He quickly turned around gripping the gun out of jacket, pointing the barrel to an infected. The infected snarled his teeth and stepped back a bit but didn't let his guard down entirely. A shining object gleamed on the tattered shirt, another name tag like the dead David. Gray put two and two together but something still didn't click. If he recalled correctly the tag also said Los Angeles, how could these infected be coming from Green Stem Inc in California? He was in Arizona, they must have migrated, but why? The infected snarled again leaving a trail of saliva down its deformed chin and leaped towards Gray. Quickly he shot his shoulder and punched his face, knocking it out cold. Grays knuckles pulsed and ached from the blow, the infected's face was pretty firm. With a swift motion he inspected the body and noticed something different from all the other infected hes ever encountered. This one had needle marks all over its veins on its wrists up to the crease on his arms. They looked like a heroin addicts arms, the needle scars covering the arms like the night sky and its stars. He quickly patted the pockets on the unconscious infected and found the same syringes found in the region of White Bone filled with the same drug. Questions flooded his mind but he still had a lead, Green Stem Inc. They had to of had a role to play in all this, but first he needed to do more research. He began to make his way to his truck and heard the fast steps of from the infected follow him as it regained consciousness. Gray quickly pulled back the hammer of his revolver and with a swift turn aimed between its eyes. Bang.
