They both stepped onto the packed subway and were consumed by the mass of people. Since they were forced to stand, Ni-ki positioned himself so that he was right in front of Iseul. The two went on the subway quite often but today Ni-ki noticed how other men looked at Iseul more closely than usual. He quickly put two and two together and figured out it was because she was wearing shorts and a crop top on account of the blazing sun. It was unusually hot that week and it was the first heat wave after a season of padded jackets and fuzzy boots. Ni-ki thought it was disgusting how these people saw normal teenage girls as eye candy. Ni-ki took his hoodie out of his backpack and flopped it onto her head.
"I don't want your crusty hoodie." she said before throwing it into his face and focusing back on her phone.
Ni-ki rolled his eyes and bent down to her level, "There are creepy middle-aged men looking at you, just wear it." His statement seemed to catch her attention since she took the sweater after looking around for herself. Iseul wearing the hoodie seemed to pull the creepers out of their trance and for a few stops most of them were looking away.
As they were getting closer to their stop, Ni-ki saw a man reaching his hand towards Iseul. He swiftly put his hand on her waist and moved her to the side. Ni-ki glared at the man as he turned the other way, clearly shocked at how he got caught.
Iseul was startled by the man but remembered to thank Ni-ki. Ni-ki nodded and pulled her just close enough so their bodies weren't touching. Iseul furrowed her eyebrow and looked up at him. Ni-ki then stated, "Just until he leaves."
So Ni-ki stood there watching her play solitaire until they got to their stop, occasionally helping her, even though the man left just after the incident. Iseul didn't say anything, and neither did he. It was like it never happened.
