(February 23rd, 1993.)
Carrie looked at the entrance tunnel to ToonTown. She was hesitant as she reached a hand out. It would be the first time she steeped into the territory she thought was only fiction. Oh man, her mom would definitely be so furious. Carrie stepped inside as she began walking. She watched as the trees bounce and sing "Smile, darn ya, Smile." Birds fly around her and said "It's the chosen one. Hello!" She gave a wholehearted smile at how sincere this felt. "Hello to you too!" She lets one perch on her finger as they made it into the center of the town. People were gathering around and preparing a celebration.
Carrie came over and asked one of the toons about what was happening. They all turn and knelt down to greet her. "It is you. It's her." Woody Woodpecker cheers and does his signature laugh. Carrie was still quite confused as she tells everyone to get up. "I only came in here to finish my father's unfinished business. I'm not chosen for anything.. I think." Daniel disperses the crowd and comes through. "Alright, alright. Don't badger them now." He tells the toons before looking to see who it was. "Daughter?"
Carrie ran into her father's arms and hugged him. "Father!" She felt a spiritual joy wash over her. Freedom. Everyone clapped and whistles. "Love, you're just in time for the celebration, of this opening ceremony." Carrie moved some hair from
her face. "I think you'd be perfect to open up the ceremony as our personal guest." She waved her hands. "Oh no no. Oh I don't sing." Every encouraged her to just give it a shot. Besides, what was there to lose. "Ok." Carrie sets a music sheet on the piano As the handler played it. Then she began to sing."Think of me, think of me fondly When we've said goodbye. Remember me, once in a while. Please promise me you'll try." Everyone listened to the music and the melody of her voice. "When you find that once again you long, To take your heart back and be free.. If you ever find a moment, Spare a thought for me." The angle of view circles around Carrie and skips to later in the night when the ceremony begins. She was wearing a light pink dress with long sleeves and flower decals.
"We never said our love was evergreen, Or as unchanging as the sea! But if you can still remember, Stop and think of me." She danced around the stage with the other toons watching on. "Think of all the things we've shared and seen.. Don't think about the way things might have been." Jessica and Roger were in the back of the audience, silently watching on as Carrie sang more. "Think of me, think of me waking, Silent and resigned. Imagine me trying too hard to put you from my mind! Recall those days, Look back on all those times. Think of the things we'll never do.. There will never be a day when I won't think of you!"
Some of the toons clapped as it cuts over to the balcony seating where Daniel was sitting. As well as Serafima and Eddie. "That is she.. That right there's Carrie." Daniel sang to himself, then him and Eddie both rose up to applaud her as they both said "Bravo!" Then they sat back down when Serafima sets them down. Abrasive as she was known for, she wasn't convinced it was really Carrie that opened up ToonTown once again. "Long ago, it seems so long ago. How young and innocent she were! In the trying times, you'll see. We will remember her!"
Carrie begins the closing bit of the song. "Flowers fade, the fruits of summer fade. They have their season so do we! But please promise me that sometimes, You will think..." She began to go into a cadenza and then hits a high note. "of me!" Everyone gave a standing ovation and people tossed her flowers.
After the show, Carrie met up with her father as he puts the bouquet of flowers that she had in her hands into a vase. "You did great out there Carrie. My sweet little bird." He praised her as she then noticed Eddie and Serafima come up to the two of them. "You did good out there kid. You got a big talent. Always put it to good use." Serafima stayed quiet, looking a bit intimidating. Daniel sighs at how she is acting. "Grandma, please be nice. I'm telling you this is her. She is the one."
Carrie approached her. "Look, I just want to know who i really am.. and whether or not I am who I'm meant to be.. a part of you." Serafima takes off her beret and looked down at her. "Well, you're a very good actress. The best one yet in fact.. but.. I had enough.." she turns to leave and Carrie almost looked defeated. She then sniffed the air and smelled the scent of.. "Eucalyptus Mint?" Eddie nodded. "It's an oil she uses for her hands."
Carrie began to put the pieces together, remembering a story that her dad always told of her grandmother when she was young. "Yes.. Grandma spilt the bottle.. the carpet was soaked. And it forever smelled of the mint. Like you!" Serafima turned when she heard this coming from her. Daniel laughed. "I used to lay down on that rug and oh how I missed you when you went away.. coming here! To ToonTown."
Serafima motioned Carrie to sit next to her and then sees the music box key. What is that?" She asked. "Oh this?" Carrie takes it off and shows it to her. "Well I've always had it ever since before I can remember." "May I?" She asked and Carrie hesitantly handed it over. She examined it very carefully. "It was our secret.. my sweet Lucille's and mine." and then Daniel magically pulled the music box out of the free space. "The music box." Carrie exclaimed as she takes it. "The Melody that.. Dad taught me before he died and when I came here."
Carrie takes the key and inserts it into the slot. She hummed a little bit of the melody as she wound it up. The lid opens to the figure of Carrie and the three toons standing inside. Then she began to sing another bit of the melody. "Hear the voice and, remember.." Serafima was finally convinced as she joined in with her. The two of them sang together. "Then you'll be, with these three... once upon a cold winter..." Serafima picked her up. "Oh it is you! My sweet great grandchild!" They all hug it out together and enjoyed the reunion.
