The first day of school was not something I was looking forward to. I mean who likes being pushed around and being mocked and ridiculed? I mean seriously. When my parents first died great-aunt Josephine took me in. When she died a year later uncle Ricardo got me. He tried putting me through therapy. I hated it. I would just sit and stare at the therapist. He got so fed up that he wouldn't let me in his office anymore. Ricardo gave up so I went to my grandparents. They really did love me. Grandpapa.was getting really sick. They couldn't pay for my school fees and his treatment so I was sent away again. This time to Margaret.
Margaret lived two blocks from where it all happened. It scared me so much. Must have scared her too because we moved. When I was with Grandpapa and Grandmama I made a friend. She was a year younger than me, but we got along well. Her name was Tanya. She was my second friend. The other one was named Georgia. She's dead now. Her parents accidently left the burner on all night. The house burned down with them in it. I have nightmares about her dying still.
Margaret honked the horn from outside. I picked up my bag and ran outside. Margaret own a rusty old ford pickup. It blended in perfectly with the others here. We pulled up to the high school. The schools here were whacked out. K- 4 was in the elementary. 5& 6 in the middle school. 7-9 in the junior high. And then 10-12 were inthe high school.
"Good luck!" Margaret called.
I walked to the main office and pushed the door open. A woman sat at the front desk.
"Are you Serendipity?" She said in a sugar sweet voice.
Wow. News spreads quickly in a small town.
