We started walking at the top, then stopped. We didn't know where we were going. Raymond has told us the PS base was located at the end of the tunnel. There were several possibilities of what could have happened all running through my mind.
The turn in the tunnel, that could have been the wrong one. We could have gone up the wrong ladder. The PS may not be here anymore. They were all very possible; which I hated.
"So, what do we do?" Trina asked, still wiping away some tears.
I wanted to tell her what we'd do. I wanted to know which way to go. "I have no clue," I said, dragging out the words. I realized I shouldn't have dragged them out, it would only give a more lingering and stressful effect.
We both stood there, breathing silently. I didn't know what to do, where to go, how to even survive. I scared myself with the last thought. I walked back over to where Raymond died. I didn't know why, it just came over me. I stared down at where he was killed; where he was killed by creatures made by RADD. I had a burning passion to kill RADD, but they were dead. I wanted to destroy them myself. I hated them with every fiber of my being.
Trina walked over near me. "Should we just choose a path and go that way?" she asked.
I was glad one of us could still make decisions. The only thing I wanted to do was kill RADD, myself. We stood there, baffled. I knew Trina was right; it was our only option. I couldn't think of anything else to do, so I went with her.
After a few hours of walking, I began to grow hungry. We hadn't eaten for over a day, and the last meal we had was a cannibalistic one. I almost began to wish I had eaten more of the flesh. We continued walking across the valet with nothing in our sight. There was a shining green abyss in front of us.
"As long as we keep walking we should get somewhere. Of course, the world is ending, but we have to find people somewhere," Trina said, breaking the silence.
"I don't know, we could be going the wrong way, we could find more creatures, we could—"
"Stop being so depressing." Trina groaned, almost sounding comical.
"Sorry," was all I could get out.
Hunger began to overwhelm me. I hated wanting food that bad, even if it was human. We continued walking across the valley. Nothing was said between us. I started seeing buildings off in the distance. I began to grow hope, more than I should've.
"Look," I said pointing in the distance, "Buildings."
Trina put her hand over her eyes, glancing off into the distance. "I see them. But do you think they were abandoned?" Trina asked, still gazing out into the distance.
"Well, if they are, there should at least be food," I said, starting to pick up my pace.
I and Trina started jogging toward the buildings. It was strange seeing them so far away. The world being destroyed was a weird concept to even think about. It almost seemed like an alienated unexplored planet. We were about a mile away when I started hearing the city.
It sounded like traffic was running through it. I could hear multiple cars honking from the city. I didn't believe what I was hearing. There were car honks and distant chatters. I could hear them from where I was standing, something didn't seem right.
I looked over at Trina, who seemed to be thinking the same thing, and we started running. The sight of a running city was enough to make me disbelieve my eyes. A running city with people though, that made me think I was going crazy.
"Are you hearing the same thing I am?" I asked Trina in disbelief.
"I am," she said in awe, "And it's amazing."
