FIVE YEARS AGO
I push onto Alex back, forcing her to keep walking forward. I know she's worried about anyone noticing her in a tattoo parlour.
I'm a shit friend.
I know I am.
"Come on Ali, stop being a baby." I roll my eyes; she shook her head and looks around the roads. I could tell she was scared to see her father's car, but I made sure that her father was busy at work by mixing the papers up. Her dad works with mine, she should be safe for now.
"Cathy, I have to go home. If my parents see me here-" I hold my hand up, wanting her to take a deep breath. "I'm sorry, I'm just nervous."
"Hey, it's me getting the tattoo. Not you, use this as an opportunity to sketch the place? Bring some ideas for your portfolio, you are applying to a University in New York."
She deserves it. She really does deserve it; her artwork is absolutely beautiful. I've always aspired to have her sort of talent; I've always wanted something to do that would remove the stress away.
Something that isn't drugs or sex.
"You never told me it was in this part of town." She whispers, rubbing onto her arms.
"Then you would have never come." I chuckle.
"Exactly!" We reach the front of the tattoo parlour; I open the door and hold it for her as she steps in. I reach the front desk and see Marie; she looks up with a smile.
"Cathy, here for my diamond tattoo."
"With Ares?"
"Oh, I thought it was with Mike. Yeah, whatever." I turn around and see Alexandra looking at the artwork on the wall, I knew she'd love it here. I knew she'd find some sort of inspiration. I let her linger around for a moment or so.
"Yeah, go through."
"Ali, come on." She follows after me as I walk through the right hallway. I reach the door. "Ares, right?" I assumed.
I saw him glancing at Alexandra behind me, as if he recognised her. He looks as if he's seen her before. Ares is one of the men I know. Dangerous. He stares at me when their eyes separate for a little minute. "Cathy? Roll up your sleeves and take a seat." I sit down on the bed and roll up my sleeves as I listen to him. He put on a pair of latex black gloves whilst I take out my phone, where I see my mother texting me.
Mum: Have you seen your fathers shoes? The black ones.
I text her back, telling her I haven't seen it.
I know exactly what my father's going to do to her, I need to get my mind off it. I look at Alexandra and see her look uncomfortable. Think. Think of something to settle her down, "so, how's the hunt for Diávolos?" I ask.
