"My husband." I croak out, Adeline slowly begins to fall asleep in my arms.
"We need to call the police, Catherine."
"No, no police."
"Are you being serious? Look at you? I can barely see your face!" I shake my head, tears fall from my eyes, I use the sleeve of the pyjama to wipe it off. "Oh Cathy..." She stands up and gently pushes my head into her chest.
"We can't call the police, Alexandra. I do not want him to know where i am, I do not want to speak to him." Her chin is pressed on the top of my head. I hand her back Adeline, "me being here is dangerous, I should leave..."
"What are you talking about? Leave and go where?" Alexandra whispers.
"You have a husband and beautiful baby girl...you have a family that you need to give your attention and time too...I-I'm being selfish again." Alexandra stares at me, struggling to find any words. I walk away, grabbing my shoes and entering the guest bedroom to grab my phone. I look back at Alex following after me.
"You're being silly, stay the night here. He could be looking for you."
"Exactly, I'm not putting you through this difficult period in my life. I am overjoyed for you, happy for you, you deserve this...you deserve everything. I know I've been a terrible and selfish friend to you in the past... I am a pessimist, and my life is my karma. I wish you the finest life possible because you deserve it." I lean over and kiss Alex on the cheek before grazing Adeline. "You deserve it all..."
I make my way out, not looking back as I walk onto the road.
I rush my fingers through my hair, I see that there is no signal as i continue to walk. I look up at the night sky. Silently wishing for something to take me, to take me away. My whole life is doomed, I pull the hair that has gotten stuck into my mouth from the strong breeze. My arms fold over my chest.
It felt like hours, but in reality it was forty five minutes.
The fog light blinds me as I peek behind me at the sound of a car.
Maxwell.
My heart rate rises as I make a run for it.
During my sprint, I look back every few seconds to see whether it is following me; the car goes ahead of me and then stops. As the door opens, I shake my head, my eyes locking with green ones.
Not brown ones.
Adonis.
Beautiful brown locks hung restlessly across his brow. Emerald eyes. His nose is prominent.
Scruffy beard, plump lips Despite the fact that his physique was simply wonderful proportioned. I could tell it through his tight shirt that he was not the obese sort, but he was well-built. I also noticed several drawings on his neck and chest.
