1943
As The Second World War kicked off, I decided to join the French army as a medic. After France was invaded by German forces I helped a lot of French people flee. Thinking about my family's graves being ruined made my heart ache. I wanted to visit them terribly, but this war was terrible. Once the news got out that Germans were killing Jews in camps, the news traveled fast and an influx of people wanted to join the French army to help take back territory.

I requested to be on the front lines and they didn't hesitate to accept my request. Of course, there were warnings but I didn't care. France was my first home, and I wanted to help. I may have lived in England for centuries but it didn't make a difference. The crazy thing is, I began to speak just like them finally. It was like I was actually British.

I've been on the front lines for about a month now, it wasn't an ideal living situation for obvious reasons but it was hard to see other people suffer. I didn't get sick or catch infections at all... So it was hard seeing how many people had to get their feet amputated in the trenches. There weren't many French troops but I wanted to help as much as I could.

As I helped put away medical supplies with other medics handling their supplies I felt a shiver go down my spine. It was odd, but because of it, I began to look around confused. That's when I saw someone with blonde hair pass by. I looked at them for a second, and it reminded me of Francis. His hair, I mean... I thought maybe my mind was playing tricks on me by thinking I was seeing him.

I walked up to the soldier slowly to say hello to them. Being friends with someone because they looked like someone wasn't good. However, it might fill a hole inside my heart. "Francis!! Hey!!!" A soldier called out. My body suddenly froze hearing the name, and I stared carefully at the person I wanted to talk to.

He began to turn around slowly, and it was like I heard music all around me. We both locked eyes, and I felt my legs melt. Seeing him... After so many years... This time, it hurt my soul.

"Ar...Arthur?....." he slowly spoke. I felt a tear fall down my cheek, and that soldier that called his name approached us. "You wanna go drink?" He asked Francis, who wouldn't take his eyes off of me. "Ummm, maybe another time... I'm sorry," Francis spoke softly.

He didn't look so angry anymore, and his features looked sweeter. "Do you know doctor Kirkland? He just transferred here last month! He does a great job!!" The soldier smiled at me. "It's nothing, really," I laughed nervously. "Yes, I know him..." Francis started. "We are childhood friends," he added sweetly.

Once the soldier walked away from us, Francis grabbed my wrist swiftly. He began to pull me into the nearest empty room, and I understood why.

He pulled me into a room that looked like they kept rations there. "Arthur!!!!!" He cheered. Francis hugged me, and it felt so warm. I felt another tear drop from my eyes, and then I finally separated. "WAIT!!! NO, NO, NO!! The last time I saw you.... You... You...."

"I know..... I went through something back then, but I think seeing you on that field snapped me out of it. I promise you... I'm not like that anymore, and I'm not proud of what I did," he began to cry. He held onto my coat tight and looked me in the eyes "please forgive me!! I .... I was being stupid," he said, begging.

I smiled at him for apologizing and nodded my head "I forgive you... I've missed you so much," I cried. "Well... It's been nearly two centuries!!! What have you been doing?.... Well... besides from the obvious war," he laughed nervously.

"I've been good.....I went back to school to update my medical knowledge about twenty years back. Lots of improvement let me tell you," I laughed.
"I'm sure of it!!"
"What about you?" I asked
"Well... I actually wanted to try something new recently, so I went back to school and figured science was nice... Plus I wanted to see if there was anything I could do to figure out what happened to us...." He said nervously.

My face softened, and the air got serious. "Speaking of that... A while back, I got thinking about a bunch of puzzle pieces that were given to us. "Love within each other" and then her saying how it was the wrong time for us? Some time ago I realized that something was missing in my life... And you know what it is?"
"What?"
"Love!!!! I think maybe we are supposed to find someone to break this curse," I explained. "Find someone? Really? I've found lots of women and men too! Can you believe that?!! I tried it out, and I liked it!! But anyway..... it didn't work...." He said, and I felt shocked.

Wow, he was open about it....

"Were you in love?" I asked him. He thought about it for a second a shrugged his shoulder. "Honestly..... I'm not sure, now that I think about it," he said dumbly.

He suddenly looked at me, and a smile grew on his face. "What?" I asked, confused. "When the war is over....let's live together again..." his words made my eyes widen and my lip quiver.

His smile was so radiant, and I knew he wasn't the same person anymore. "You want to live with me? A boring old man?" I laughed. My cheeks felt hot, and he slowly began to place a hand on my cheek. "Why not? Maybe we can start over," he smiled.

My smile faded and I soon began to cry. "I would like that a lot," I whispered.
