"So you are telling the truth? What picture would you look at?" Matthew asked. My face got red as I walked over to my desk to find my wallet. I sat back on the floor and began to open it up to take out the picture. "This was taken in nineteen sixty-nine, in England" I showed them. It was the Polaroid photo of Francis. It was noticeably old, and they both stared at it shocked. "Wait so how come we barely found out about Francis?" Alfred asked.
"Well..... that's a story that you aren't old enough to hear..." I spoke nervously.
"Dad!" They both whined.
I looked to Francis who looked down sadly. He was embarrassed and ashamed to talk about it. "I shouldn't-...""No.....it's fine...." Francis suddenly said. The boys looked at him and he began to go through the journals that were his. He had brought a lot of his stuff over here a year ago, but they were still in boxes.
He showed them a journal labeled seventeen hundred to seventeen sixty. He handed it to them and they looked at it interested.
"Well... during this period.... I did a lot of bad things.... I fought in a lot of wars but it wasn't good. I ......I killed lots of people.... For fun... I'm not proud of it. Your father and I have been through a lot over the past few centuries. However, I lost my way pretty badly. Because of it..... I suffered from PTSD without realizing it. Then.... The last time your dad and I spoke... it was because of me..... I hurt him. I stabbed him really bad and I couldn't forgive myself for hurting him like that. Now.... Well, it's different now as you can tell..." he paused to point to my stab wound that had already begun to heal.
"So.... I decided to leave so I can get better... but it was a mistake...." Francis added sadly.
Matthew began to go through the journal and he began to read all the gruesome stuff that Francis had written down.
"So... you both have killed people?" Alfred asked. I nodded my head at him and it was like he was having a reality check. "Wait!! I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around this.... So you both have been alive since .... The medieval period... and haven't aged? Well, what about us? Will we outlive you?" Matthew asked confused.
I looked to Francis and slowly nodded my head. Their eyes grew sad and Matthew began to hold Alfred's hand. "Well... You can't do that!!"
"What? We can't do anything about it, Alfred!"
"Learn black magic? Do something? I don't... that is terrible..." he said, horrified.
"Well... We've got a few clues from the witch on how to break the spell... but nothing has worked," Francis tried to explain to them. They were young still..... I hope this wasn't too hard to understand. "What were they?" Matthew asked. I began to go through the photo album until I found the laminated piece of paper.
"This.... Was written in the thirteenth century.... Francis and I both got it and all it said was "love within each other," I showed them.
They began to look at it, and they seemed just as confused.
"What exactly happened that day?" Alfred asked.
"Arthur and I had been playing late at night when she came to us... She wanted to take your father but I didn't let her.....she kept saying something about the wrong time for us?.... And then she put a curse on us," Francis tried to explain."Wait... Wrong time for you?" Matthew asked confused. "Ooooooo what is it Mattie!!!??? Did you figure it out?" Alfred cheered. Both Francis and I looked at each other shocked and he began to think about it.
"Well... it sounded like that one thing people say...you know?!!" Matthew asked us. The three of us shook our heads and he smacked his forehead annoyed.
"Well... people say... usually.... "Wrong time, right person"..... like soulmates in a way... But because of the time and outside occurrences..... things don't work out...." He explained.
My eyes widened, and I think I finally realized what was really supposed to happen and it made me so angry I began to laugh. "Are you serious?" I laughed to myself. I could feel everyone staring at me and I immediately stood up.
"It was that simple? And I was too stupid to realize it?" I laughed. I felt like I was going crazy. "What is it, Arthur?" Francis asked worried. "This has to be a dumb joke? It doesn't explain why she wanted to abduct me but she somehow saw romance between us and decided "hey!! You know what would be a good idea?" Hahaha" I laughed.
Francis stood up to get me to sit down and the boys looked at us confused. "The answer was right in front of us..... it was love...." I explained. "That sounds corny..." Alfred laughed.
"No.... Francis and I..... she wanted us to fall in love with each other... but..."
"But?...."
"It didn't work? Something must be missing?"
"But the witch is dead by now? Right? How would she know if her spell worked by now?" Matthew asked confused.I looked to Francis and his eyes widened. "What is it?" I asked. "That night .... I knew something was up when she wanted only you at first..... I think that she was going to abduct you and do this to you in the first place... but when I stepped in she decided to threaten with a curse... she .... She knew we would have.... Feelings for each other," he said pausing as he turned red.
"But!!! She knew about it.... And haven't you noticed that any moment we were going to kiss romantically.....it was ....interrupted... the way we got separated when things were fine..." he said horrified and I finally caught on to what he was thinking.
"Yuck!!! So much kissing and love," Alfred said disgusted. "No... he is right though.. what if..." Matthew stopped speaking, and I could tell he had shivers down his spine. "The witch... She has been alive this whole time watching us.." I said terrified.
