"Hey Tom. There's just someone standing by those woods." Mary yelled from the living room. The rest of them were eating lunch at the dining table. Donna's father stood up and went to look, they followed him.
Once Donna got to the window and peered out she could see it was Ferneus. She was surprised, it wasn't like him to be out in broad daylight, or that's what she figured anyway. She didn't know what he did in his free time.
"He's been standing there all day. Do you think he's in trouble?" Mary asked, Tom shook his head.
"He's probably drunk or something, who knows. It's not our concern." And with that he headed back to the kitchen.
"But you don't know that!" Mary argued following him. "It wouldn't hurt to go check!" Tom sighed not wanting to argue.
"Fine Mary, we can go check to see if he's alright." As soon as Donna heard this she got worried. It was true Samantha didn't know who Ferneus was now, but her mom did. Disguised or not she'd find out it's him. But that wasn't the only thing, she hadn't seen Ferneus in a few weeks and she was kind of nervous to see him again.
"You kids are staying here." Her mother said firmly, opening the door with Tom behind her looking tired.
"Alright mother." Samantha complied.
"Why can't I go!?" Donna asked purposefully sounding angry, Mary turned around.
"Because what if he's dangerous! He could try and kidnap you!"
"In front of you guys!?" Donna pointed out, Mary opened her mouth to retort but didn't have any other argument.
"Why can't you just listen?" She said tiredly. Donna didn't answer, instead she slipped past them and out the door.
"She takes after you," Tom mumbled to Mary before heading out as well. Deafeted she followed them with Samantha at the back.
Donna had a head start and was pretty far ahead of them. She had to warn Ferneus before they got there. She couldn't let them find out, it would be horrible. The people in this town were crazy and superstitious beyond understanding, she wouldn't put it past them to bring back the burning alive witches thing and burn her. And if her mother told her father that he was a demon, he'd probably exorcize him, and it'd all be her fault. So she kept up her fast pace to get to him before they could.
"Donna Flaskings! You better wait for us you hear me!" Her mother yelled after her, Ferneus hadn't noticed them yet, but after she screamed he slowly looked up to see Donna and her whole family running to him.
"What the Hell is going on?" He muttered angrily to himself, "I thought we understood each other now! How many times do I have to say I don't like confrontation!" He glared at Donna as she still tried to get to him, but going much slower now.
She was trying to please her mother by walking slower and it seemed to be working, but they were getting closer and Donna was close to crying from the stress.
Ferneus thankfully noticed how desperate she was to get to him, so he started walking to her. He was still pretty mad that all these people were running towards him, but he was concerned about Donna. He never saw her like this before. As soon as they got close enough to each other Donna mouthed the words,
"Run! Go! You can't talk to them! My mom will know it's you!"
Ferneus stopped confused, "Donna, what are you doing?"
Thankfully she could hear him, but her family was pretty close now and she was so afraid they'd hear. Panicking Donna made a last minute decision. Instead of pretending to wait for her family, she ran as fast as she could with her crutches speeding towards him. Everyone was surprised by this, even Donna. She barely knew what she was doing, but she knew she had to do something.
