He opened his door and looked at his house. It was considerably cleaner. He sat on the couch and absent mindedly felt for the remote. It wasn't where he left it. He stood up and checked in the cushions. Nothing. He knelt down and looked under the couch. Instead of pulling out the remote, he retreived the red album. He sat back on the couch and opened the cover. The last time he looked at it, he was either drunk or having some episode. He flipped through his toddler years and found the pictures he was most eager to see. Those of a blonde-haired, brown-eyed boy.
He looked so happy in these pictures. So sweet and innocent and young. He had always wanted to be a hero.
His phone buzzed on the table. The caller ID was unknown but he still answered anyway.
"Hello?"
"Is this Mr. Jackson Alastor?" The seemingly older lady said.
"Yes, it is. Who is this?"
"I'm Kai's mom. Your summer break just started, I think. It would be nice if you could come to America and maybe we could catch up. It's been a while."
"Yeah. Of course. I can come. Actually, I've been meaning to come back to the states for a while now."
"When can I expect you?"
"Soon enough. Bye."
He hung up and put his phone back down. His eyes traveled to a photo that had all 3 of them. Kai, Ms. Yuki, and himself. They were wearing party hats. Kai looked almost exactly like his mother. Small nose. Honey brown eyes. Beautiful smile. The only way you could tell them apart was their hair although Ms. Yuki's was almost always tied back.
