Raging Hunter

Chapter 3

I woke up with knots in my stomach , today is the big day . I groaned as I faceplanted on the bed , I heard a knock on the door but I just kept silent . I knew it was Chase , he always uses too much cologne .

He sat down beside me ,"I know you're awake , no point in pretending to sleep ." I heard him softly chuckle and he whispered something . Next thing I know  Asher jumped on me and licked my face , I couldn't help but giggle .

He lightly smiled ,"Good , your awake . I just came by to tell you that I invited Hunter to the wedding ." I jumped up ,"What !?" He looked over at Asher ,"Don't worry , everything will be fine . By the way did you know my dad is making me the Alpha today ?"

I sighed ,"Yea , I know ." He smiled ,"I will be made Alpha just before we get married , and I also talked to Hunter ." I tilted my head ,"What's that supposed to mean ?" He took my hand and smiled ,"No worries , today will go down smoothly .You should probably get dressed , the wedding starts in an hour ."

And with that he walked out . I seriously doubt that Hunter is fine with the wedding , he can't control his temper . And did I mention he is abnormally strong ? He is the beta of this pack , it all started when the previous beta , Derek harassed and forcefully tried to mark me . Hunter knocked him out with a single hit . Derek wanted revenge and Hunter challenged him for the position of beta . Everyone was shocked but Hunter effortlessly won .

My dad says that he suspects that Hunter's parents were Alpha's , we wouldn't know for sure because he doesn't know who his parents are .

I nervously stood at the door looking down at the isle . A rat was knawing my insides and my wolf felt miserable . Everyone looked at me as I walked down the path of uncertainty , my dad gave me away and returned to his seat .

I am partly glad I didn't slip , I am always so clumsy . I looked over at the crowd of people staring at me with hundreds of eyes . I glanced over at Chase who was standing next to me , his dad took the microphone ,"I have waited for this day for a long time , I was worried about handing over the reins to my son because he he was very rebellious growing up . But now I most certainly know I made the right choice .Chase , you grew up so fast . And now you're getting married too , I'm proud to have a son like you ."

I could see Chase almost cried , his dad was never the effectionate type . Everyone clapped as Chase was made the new Alpha , he stepped forward to give his speech and everyone fell silent as they listened .

He smiled ,"Now , as you all know , unless you were sleeping , I am your new Alpha ." Everyone chuckled and Chase continued ,"I took my vows as Alpha seriously when I made them , I swore loyalty and I hope you are willing to do the same . I might be the Alpha but I am nothing without a pack , I'm here to be your father , your brother , and even your friend ."

Thats when I noticed that Chase was looking at Hunter at the back of the crowd , I could feel he was very anxious . I watched him ball his hands into a fist .

Please Hunter , don't do something stupid .

My head snapped back to Chase as he sighed ,"Ladies and gentlemen , I want you to help me decide . As my first day of Alpha I would like to change something but I want your opinion on it ." Everyone watched him curiously as he took a deep breath ,"We all know about our pack tradions including the ones about marriage ."

Where are you going with this Chase ?

He thought for a bit before holding up the microphone again ,"The rule about arranging marriages before the child is even born . I'm sure your wondering where I'm going with this but I'm unsure myself , thats why I'll need your help later .I am aware of some unhappy people in the pack all because of that reason , and thats the reason our pack ranks 10th , our morale is low , we need to change that ."

Some were shocked , some agreed and disagreed . His parents were horrified .

He swallowed ,"Raise your hand and be honest , how many of you are in arranged marriages and aren't happy ? You won't be punished ." 

A hand went up followed by another . I looked around and saw a few more hands , Chase nodded ,"Are all hand up and high ? Speak now or forever hold your peace ." More hands went up and Chase also raised his hand and signalled me to do the same .

More than half the room's hands were up and Chase nodded with a serious face ,"As Alpha I will listen to you , now I will need your help to decide . Put down your hand if you still want to be married to your husband or wife eventhough they are not your mate ."

Only one or two dropped their hands , and Chase held up the microphone again ,"I'll make you a deal , if we change this law today as a pack I will arrange a ceremony where you can swap to be with your mate . We won't call it devorce , more of a switch to keep your sanity . We'll call that day Reunited . But if you choose not to change the rule , we will go on with the wedding and everyone will keep their mate issue to themselves ."

Everyone whispered and discussed with each other , there was hope in their eyes but I was unsure if they would agree to the idea . The elders shook their heads and our parents were glaring at us .

Chase stepped forward ,"So my people, have you come to a desision ? If you want the rule to be changed raise your hand with me ." As Chase raised his hand everyone looked around , a few moments of silence went by and I was losing hope .
