~Part Two~
"We're here." My fathers deep voice made me jump since it was the first sentence he had said the whole trip. "Um... Okay..." I sniffed and wiped my eyes with the sleeve of my hoodie. Before I unbuckled my seatbelt. Mother couldn't get out of the car, because the cold air would undoubtedly kill her. But to be nice, I pecked her cheek, told her I loved her, and slid out of the still running vehicle. My black vans crunched as they hit the fresh snow underneath them, and I shivered as the cold air surrounded me. " I'll get your bags, and bring you to the office where they'll show you your room." Dad said dully. I nodded as he opened the trunk and got my backpack, and small suitcase. He handed my bag to me and I slung it up onto my shoulder. He picked up my suitcase and nodded to a small grey brick building. Which I assumed was the office he was talking about. We didn't speak as we both walked to the office. The bells attached to the door handle chimed signaling our entrance. The woman at the tall wooden front desk peeked out at us from behind her round glasses. "Can I help you?" She asked smiling sweetly. She was older. Maybe 40. The same age as my mother. I could tell because of her small wrinkles that she had attempted to cover with makeup. That was way to dark for her skin tone. And her bright red lipstick that was clinging to the rim of her coffee cup, and her front teeth. "This is Hadley. She's new here." My dad said introducing me. "Oh! So your the new girl. The others are so excited to meet you. We have your room in order everything is prepared!" She chirped. Way to excited for my liking. But I smiled awkwardly in attempt to show some kind of emotion. She handed my dad a clipboard with a couple of papers on it, which he quickly signed. Like he was in a rush to get rid of me. After he was done, the woman handed me a room key and a silver whistle that were attached to a piece of red ribbon. "What's the whistle for?" I asked as I ran my thumb across the smooth surface of it. "In case of an emergency you just have to blow on it, and security will come running." She gestured towards a tall man in a police like uniform. A huge dog that looked like some sort of German Shepard was asleep at his feet. "That's Derrick. The dorm security. If you ever need help he's the one to call." I waved shyly at Derrick as his cold grey eyes met mine. But he did nothing to acknowledge my presence except nod slightly. I turned my attention back to the woman. "So it's like a rape whistle?" She choked on her coffee at my remark and my dad smacked her back a couple of times until the coughing ceased. "Um... Well.. Yes I suppose it could me used for um... That..." She flattened out her blonde hair that had escaped from the tight pony tail she had it in. "But there aren't many male teachers here. And they are all very trustworthy." She assured. "Girls are just as dangerous." I mumbled too soft for anyone to hear.
