"A painful consequence
Of standing on your lies
I'm barely breathing but I'm screaming out

Just carry on
Just prove me wrong
I know that I'm dying right now
And it seems that I'm so far gone
But not for long
I'll just be strong and keep knowing
That now I will overtake you

I know that I'm dying right now
And it seems that I'm so far gone
(Overtake you)
I'll just be strong and keep knowing
That now I will overtake

You'll come to get me, but you'll end up dead
You'll come to get me, but you'll end up dead
You'll come to get me, but you'll end up dead
You'll come to get me, but you'll end up dead"

"We should find somewhere to hide. I don't know about you, but I don't think I can keep going for much longer." Sam said raggedly. Bucky felt a pang of guilt, hearing her in such a state. His own body was capable of so much more than hers, and he hadn't realized how pale she had gotten, even in the moonlight. He knew she was probably barely hanging on as it was.

He'd just been too preoccupied with escaping and getting as far away from that place as he could to notice. But still, he didn't stop.

"We have to keep moving. They're still after us, even if we don't realize it at the moment. I know you're tired. We just need to get to civilization and then you can rest. I promise." Bucky answered quietly. Truthfully, he wanted to stop and rest just as much as Sam, but he knew that if they did, they probably wouldn't be able to get moving again.

"I know...I know." Sam replied. Bucky felt something stir in his chest when she stiffened and pushed herself even more. She reminded him of himself when Steve rescued him from HYDRA's prison camp back in the '40s. He remembered how Steve was practically dragging him through the hall, just as Bucky was Sam.

For the next hour or so, Sam didn't say anything. She never once complained, never asked how long it would be, just kept going. Yet no matter how much she tried to hide it, exhaustion was taking over. Bucky could tell by the way she stumbled and how he was carrying more of her weight the longer they went. She was on his left, so his metal arm was doing the carrying, but it still slowed him down.

The wound on his flesh arm had turned out to be just a graze from one of the bullets, and from how much it hurt, Bucky judged it was close to being completely healed. Though he was also exhausted, his body was in much better shape than Sam's. He wished he could help take some of her pain away- he knew from experience that she was in much more than she let show.

"Just a little bit further." He whispered as she began to tire, despite her efforts. She stumbled over a branch and fell to her knees, clutching her head and stifling a groan.

"Here," Bucky said, crouching down to pick her up. She shrugged him off.

"It's okay, I can keep going. I just didn't see it." Sam insisted, though the strain in her voice betrayed her. She lifted her hand and Bucky took it, raising her to her feet.

"I'm okay, I promise." She said, giving him a weak smile. Bucky stared into her eyes for a moment, switching between the two. He sighed.

"Fine. But if you need me to..."

Her smile broadened.

"Thank you, Bucky. But I can walk on my own...for now."

He shook his head at her response, somewhat amused.

"Thank you, Buck. But I can get by on my own."

Thankfully, within the next 20 minutes, Bucky saw the silhouette of an old barn in the distance. Because they were on top of a hill, it was easy for Bucky to see there were city lights in the horizon. He knew they wouldn't be able to make it there so he settled for the barn, though everything in him was screaming that something was off, that it was a trap.
