Biana's POV
I slipped into Candy Hearts, feeling miserable. The bright pastel colors and sweet smell didn't cheer me up like usual. Outside, it was snowing lightly. Ari was relaxing on the counter, her blonde hair shimmering. It had been a couple months since I started working, and Ari and I had become good friends. "Hey, Bi!" She greeted, smiling brightly. She was a real type of happy. Not just a I-know-what-I-want-and-I'll-get-it type of happy (cough cough, Kelly, cough cough). "We have a new intern!"
"We do? Who?" I instantly thought of Kelly. "What's her name? Is she blonde?"
"Slow your roll, sister." Ari said kindly. "Um... I think her name is Sophie."
So not Kelly. I mean, okay. "Cool. When's she due?"
Ari glanced at her white iPad again, flipping her auburn fishtail braid over her shoulder, then said, "Any minute now, I think."
Right on cue, the door swung open to reveal a beautiful blonde girl with brown eyes and thick, long eyelashes. I felt a flash of jealousy - how was she so perfect looking? But, on the bright side, she was obviously not Kelly.
"There you are!" Ari said happily. "It's your shift!"
The girl gave me a nervous look and slowly slunk by. She was used to not being noticed. Hm. I showed her in the back, but every time I spoke, she jumped and slunk closer to the wall.
What was this girl's deal?
Suddenly, though, Tam appeared out of nowhere. When he saw me, he yelped and turned bright red. I was probably an equal shade of pink. Tam instantly turned to the new girl. "Hey. What's your name? I'm Tam Song."
I felt another flash of jealousy at how nice he was being to her. This was DEFINITELY not how he treated me! My mind flashed back to "The Thing", and I froze again.
"Wait, hold up," the girl spoke for the first time, "You're Tam Song. And you're Biana Vacker."
I shared confused glances with Tam. "Um, yes." I replied.
The girl's face erupted in a gleeful smile, and she burst out laughing. Wait, what?
"S-sorry." She said when she stopped giggling. "I'm Sophie Foster. Nice to meet you guys. So, shall we get on with the tour?"
