18 ~ another one bites the dust

Biana's POV

The next day, I arrived at school, still in complete shock.

I slunk through the day, feeling totally and completely terrible. I managed to avoid Kelly, but it was getting harder. Kelly was in my gym class, and that was next.

I grabbed my stuff from my locker and pulled up my black hoodie.

I'd done my best to completely disappear for the past couple weeks. I'd worn all black and baggy hoodies. I'd tied my hair up in a tight ponytail, and worn no makeup whatsoever. It'd worked - Kelly had completely ignored me. But then came gym. I wasn't allowed to disguise myself in hoodies and baggie jeans during gym, so I'd ditched for the past couple weeks.

But the principal had found out and said that I'd be suspended. So I have to go to gym. I slunk through the halls, dreading when I'd have to remove my hoodie and my presence would be noticed.

When I arrived at gym, I hopped into the changing room and reluctantly pulled on my shorts and a t-shirt. I ditched my hoodie and jeans, tied my hair up in a ponytail, and slowly walked into the gym.

I heard whispers as I walked past. "Is that Biana Vacker?", "Wasn't she PREGNANT?", and "Did you see that video of her?". I even heard someone whisper, "She's got some nerve, showing her face here." Like I was an outlaw. Or banned.

Usually, whenever I entered a room, everyone flocked towards me to tell me how pretty I looked, or who had a crush on me, or compliment me on my purse. But this? This was different.

Still, I held my head high and paraded past. Kelly was not going to get the satisfaction of seeing me cry. I continued on my way out the door, and eventually arrived at the track. Kelly, Crystal, and another girl - a pretty green-eyed brunette - were all warming up together.

Kelly's mouth dropped open upon seeing me.

Crystal and the other girl continued to chatter, though. Kelly's shock only lasted a second before her face snapped back into her usual smirk.

"Heyyyy, Bi!" Kelly said in a fake-friendly voice. "I've missed you! This is Georgia, she's our new BFF!"

The brunette smiled sourly at me, and Crystal waved with a sneer plastered on.

"Hi, Georgia." I said quietly. My plan had been to march up to Kelly and tell her off, but now that I was here, I didn't even want to speak. "What's up?"

"Not muuuuch." Kelly said. "Oh. Except for the fact that our BFF got super weird and left the school. Now she's crushing on my boyfriend."

"Tam's not your boyfriend." I whispered.

"Close enough." Kelly said dismissively. "He's wrapped around my finger, and you know it. So... toodles! We've gotta run laps."

Sure enough, Coach Barkley blew his whistle, and everyone began to run.

For a while, I was behind Kelly and the Royals, but slowly, I started gaining on them. I passed Crystal and Georgia, then Izzy, then Oona, then Jocelyn, and then I started gaining on Kelly.

Kelly, granted, was barely trying, but me, Biana Vacker, passing her, would be legendary.

Kelly was super athletic and part of the track team as well as the volleyball team, cheer squad, and a million other things. I, however, was openly known as the slowest girl in the class. So if I could beat her... well, that would be fantastic.

Slowly, inch by inch, I was making up ground, until I was running level with Kelly.

I smirked at her open-mouthed expression, and Kelly gave me a dirty look and began to run faster.

I continued to run, and eventually, I was in front of her. I had never felt so good before, and I was thinking about gloating to Kelly when my feet went out underneath me.

I hit the concrete and instantly tasted blood. "Oh my gosh, Biana, are you okay?" Kelly asked in what would've sounded like a concerned voice, but I knew was fake. 

Kelly bent down and whispered in my ear, "Tam is mine, and he will be forever. You will be all alone, and I will take your friends. Everything will be mine."

Then she stood up and helped me up. I knew her concern was phony, because I had the distinct memory of something hooking around my leg before I bit it.

I glared at Kelly and brushed myself off. This war was far from over.
