Biana POV

Great. My first day on the job. It was the weekend, and I'd finally gotten a job at Candy Hearts, the local sweet shop. I biked to it, but it was HARD! A drive across the highway, some back roads, and through a hiking trail that looked like it hadn't been weeded in years, I finally arrived in The Old Town, as the locals called it. Originally, the town had been in the middle of a forest, but throughout time, we expanded, and the whole area was named Eternalia. The Town, however, was a quaint, cute little area with tons of adorable little shops and friendly old people.

Candy Hearts was a light pink, with it's name spelled in a small billboard up top. When I entered, the door made a ding sound. "Hello! Welcome to Candy Hearts! What can I get for you?" A cheerful looking teen asked.

She had neon red hair that reminded me of Ginny Weasely's, and huge brown eyes that reminded me of Marella Redek from school.

"I'm here for the j-job." I was enraged at how my voice shook. My voice didn't shake! "It's my f-first day." I stuttered, turning bright red.

"Ah, the newbie!" The girl said. "Well, my name is Ari. We'll rely on our senior management to show you the ropes." She located something on her white iPad. "You're with Tam Song."

"Who?" I asked, confused.

"TAM!" Ari yelled into the back. "TAM!"

A grumpy looking guy came out. He had black hair with silver tips, and silver-ish blue eyes. He would've been relatively good looking (okay, scratch that. Drop dead gorgeous), if it weren't for the scowl on his face.

"Does your face always look like you just ate someone's poop?" I said, wrinkling my nose. Ari giggled in the corner.

"This is the newbie?" He said, glaring at me.

"I have a name!" I said sharply. "I'm Biana Vacker."

He rolled his eyes. "Did I ask?"

I glared at him - I couldn't stand him already.

"My name's Tam Song. I'll show you around, and you have to do everything I tell you."

"Why?" I prodded.

"Because I'm in charge, and you're not." Tam replied flatly. "Come on. You need to get into the uniform."

Ari was watching, her face a mix of concern and mild amusement, as though she was watching a fight on Dance Moms.

"Ew! I have to wear a uniform?" I cried, wrinkling my nose. I admit it - not my finest moment. But I refused to be sharing sweat with some rando in an ugly pink and baby blue uniform.

The moment he went into the back, I pulled out my phone and quickly texted Max. I'm not sure why. He just felt like the right contact at the moment. I'd told him about my job earlier.

Liz: ᴜɢʜ! ᴍʏ ᴊᴏʙ sᴜᴄᴋs! ɪ'ᴍ sᴛᴜᴄᴋ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴛʜɪs sᴜᴘᴇʀ ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ ᴊᴇʀᴋ!😡

Max: ɪ'ᴍ ᴡᴏʀᴋɪɴɢ 𝟸. ᴛʀᴀɪɴɪɴɢ ᴛʜɪs ʙʀᴀᴛᴛʏ ɴᴇᴡʙɪᴇ. ɪ ʜᴀᴛᴇ ʜᴇʀ. 👺👺👺

For reasons I didn't understand, this moment felt significant. But it passed too soon, and I ignored the tugging feeling in my gut and stuffed the phone back in my pocket. Ugh.

Tam's POV

It was a perfect day. I had served a super nice old couple and burned a couple of spoiled teenagers. I was in the back, drinking my Gatorade when Ari started yelling like a mountain goat. "TAM! TAM!" She shrieked.

I stormed out, furious, and then my jaw dropped.

Standing there was the prettiest girl I'd ever seen. She had long, chocolate brown hair and huge teal eyes. Her lips were shimmery pink, and pursed slightly, her cheeks were a flushed pink.

I could not be caught staring! My heart fluttered, but I reverted my face expression to it's natural state. The beautiful girl wrinkled her nose. "Does your face always look like you ate someone else's poop?" Ari snickered.

Oh. She seems nice. I glared at her. "This is the newbie?"

The girl gave me a dirty look. "I have a name! I'm Biana Vacker!"

Oh great. One of the legendary Vackers. She seemed extremely stuck-up, just like the rest of them.

"Did I ask?" I snapped before I could stop the words coming out of my mouth.

"My name's Tam Song. I'll show you around, and you have to do everything I tell you." Like jump in a bucket of beetles. I thought dryly.

"Why?" She prodded, her beautiful face twisting into a sour expression.

"Because I'm in charge and you're not." I said flatly. "Come on. You need to get into the uniform." And I was thrilled to be alone with her.

"Ew! I have to wear a uniform?" She whined.

I stormed into the back, but Biana lingered behind. I stared at my phone, really wanting to text Liz, but I had no idea what to say. Suddenly, my phone blared.

Liz: ᴜɢʜ! ᴍʏ ᴊᴏʙ sᴜᴄᴋs! ɪ'ᴍ sᴛᴜᴄᴋ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴛʜɪs sᴜᴘᴇʀ ᴀɴɴᴏʏɪɴɢ ᴊᴇʀᴋ!😡

I feel you, sister. I feel you.

Max: ɪ'ᴍ ᴡᴏʀᴋɪɴɢ 𝟸. ᴛʀᴀɪɴɪɴɢ ᴛʜɪs ʙʀᴀᴛᴛʏ ɴᴇᴡʙɪᴇ. ɪ ʜᴀᴛᴇ ʜᴇʀ. 👺👺👺

Something tugged in the vestiges of my brain. I needed to think. I needed to connect some things together, but... never mind. I ignored it, shoving my phone back into my pocket. Time to deal with that little brat in the lobby.

I wished I was working with Liz instead.
