IN FOR A SURPRISE

chapter fourteen

James remain busy for the next hour or so when the auction was over he was greeting some people posing for photos and small interview for time line magazine
"We should be getting out of here" isabelle said taking the lead
James saw they were about to leave and went after her,
"Leaving so soon?" He asked holding on to isabelle
"We have to go" isabelle said
"We all have to go don't we, only some is in a hurry more than some" james said to her turning to the others "give her sometime I won't keep her" he said not waiting to hear a reply before he was pulling her off again
"James can we talk another day?" Isabelle asked
James laugh, "and tomorrow you skip town and sixteen years later before I see you again" he pulled her,
"James" gwen call when he was spotted going off with the same woman again
"Wait I'm coming" james told gwen
He went in one way and carleen, david luna and Alton come out the other,
"Gwen you're still here, where's james?" Carleen asked
"You just miss him he went in that way" gwen said
"Well we'll see him bye" carleen said
They said good bye to gwen and left her waiting
"James" isabelle said when she was turn to face him they were standing in a art room decorate like a bed room
"Isabelle" james said leaning towards her he kiss her and she let him but she then pull back
"They are waiting for me" isabelle said
"I have for a long time" james said kissing isabelle a deep kiss that make both of them snap
"I want to make love to you" james whisper into Isabelle's lips
Isabelle moan gripping his shirt she lean into him and deepen the kiss
While they share heated love the others were left to wait Marsha and Shaquille wait with them
Isabelle pulled back and sat up she took a deep breath and rub her fore head
"James I have to go" she said
It's been nearly two hours they left the others waiting and Ralf try to hide what he was feeling inside
James crawl to the end of the bed where isabelle sit getting dress he wrapped his arms around her and kiss her cheek down to her neck and press his lips in her neck "isabelle I still love you I still want you" he said turning her head he kiss her deeply and he too got up to dress himself
"When do you leave?" James asked
"Early on Saturday" isabelle said
"Isabelle I have missed you too long" james said
Isabelle look at him but didn't have words she face the mirror
"My hair is such  a mess" isabelle said
"You always take so much pride in your hair" james said and chuckle "here let me help you" he help to put it back together kiss her shoulder and left her there,
Gwen decided to go see what was taking james so long he was talking to a man and a woman when gwen got to the inside,
"I'm ready now" he said facing gwen
Isabelle came out through the door they went in but to herself
Marsha widen her eyes and pull close, "that was a long conversation sixteen years of it, what did he say?" Marsha said
Isabelle look at her an frowns knowing she she was being carcasstic
"I'll call you tomorrow" isabelle said hugging Marsha they were getting in the vehicle when james came out and was going to Gwen's car,
"Isabelle" he called
Isabelle turn his way
"So you know my number haven't changed you can call me up, who knows maybe when I'm in new York I can hook you up" james said
Gwen look at him,
Isabelle close the door and turn to look at him "who told you I'm in new York?" She asked
"The painting is from new York right you did say it was yours" james said with a smile
Isabelle didn't say she climb into her vehicle and start it
"Nice seeing you again sisters" james said
Jeana and carmen wave at him
"Marsha, Maxwell" he said
"Bye" Marsha said
Shaquille nod,
Gwen look at him
Isabelle was driving out when she saw james going towards another car that he got into and drove off with the woman behind,
Isabelle sigh a deep sigh
The ride home was silent no one speak isabelle thought they had fallen a sleep
"What a night" Jeana said as isabelle park and they were getting out
"It was carmen said
"I'll fix some tea" keith said
Ralf look at isabelle but she couldn't meet his eyes
"I can't agree more about what a night it was" he said
They look at him,
"Didn't you tell your friend I was your man?" Ralf asked
Jeana widen her eyes at carmen carmen told her lips keith and marlon look at them,  then to isabelle and her man
"You think I didn't, blue just wanted to talk that's all" isabelle said
They enter the house and sat in the living room every one was gone off except for leona who refused to leave there,
"How was it?" She asked as she was turning and saw them
"It was great, did you pick on something?" Keith asked
Leona lift her head and smile, "did you guys buy anything?" She asked
"No honey we just went for show"
"Mom in the heart of the art business you have to gave support to an other artists" leona said getting up
"Did you see Denoy or Abigail?"
"It was adult only tonight sweetie" carmen said
"Glad I didn't come" leona said "goodnight" she said and went up
Keith make tea and they sat in the living room Ralf has refused he wasn't in the mode for tea
"That painting sis really is something funny why james haven't sold it back" Jeana said
"He said it is his attraction piece" keith said
"I'm surprised a painting from you ended up in james gallery" Jeana said
"It's art" marlon said
"I never knew james was this interesting in that kind of art he love piano and he take pictures that's is liking what I knew"
"James Benjamin is a great piano player?" marlon ask
"One of the best I knew back then" isabelle said
Marlon nod
"I'm going to go to bed" Ralf said
"I'll be shortly" isabelle said
"Take your time" Ralf said
Jeana roll her eyes
"I think Ralf is very upset with you" carmen whisper
"I didn't do anything" isabelle said
"Tell that to Ralf" Jeana said
Marlon and keith smile,
"Well we're leaving on Saturday and we're not going to see james again"
"And he wants to link up in New York" carmen said
"James know that isn't possible" isabelle said
"You still love him don't you?" Jeana asked
Isabelle didn't answer
"Jphe was the first man you fell for and you were going to marry him I'm sure you're having second thoughts seeing him again" jeana said
"And I'm sure he must have kiss you" carmen said
Isabelle widen her eyes at carmen "I'm going to bed" isabelle said
"He did didn't her" carmen said
Shed and Jeana giggle
Isabelle left her cup in front of her she walk away not looking back they were all grinning when isabelle climb the stairs
James took up the box made from clay and was designed in to gold he was a lone now and the phone calls had ended gwen has left his presence angry at him he couldn't think about it now isabelle was on his mind he can't believe she's leaving again he wish there's something he could do to make her stay he want her back and it was so bad, he look through the pictures he had taken if her he had one he always love with them together he look at it for a long time, he fall asleep with it on his chest,
Leona got up in the morning she didn't remember the paper james had given to her until she went into her bag and found it there,  it was a receipt to prove money was paid but the name said james Leo Benjamin and it make leona grasp the name was close to her's james middle name is Leo and her name leona james isa Benjamin,he has blue eyes and brown hair she go back to the picture and she could actually saw james on it standing with his arms around her mother's waist both looking happy, she bonded to go to james and find out she took a shower got dress called Kayden before going down stairs,
James went to the gallery early in the morning for there were things they needed to do there he made plans to go to the community center and to swing by his family,
Leona came to the kitchen all dress up,
"Are you going out?" Isabelle asked
"Need to sort out some pictures" leona tell a lie
"But honey it's still early no place is open as yet" isabelle said
"I want to be there before it open that way I can just rush in" leona said she take some nuts wave and left the house
James was already in the road when leona got there
"He left early" the woman next door said
Leona sigh she wonder why she didn't call before and try call him but got  busy tone, "thanks," she said
She went over to his family Denoy was out he an Abigail most of every one at least meg and mark james parents Lula and Maxie they welcome her james grandparents victoria, Ian, chantel and cane
She stay for forty-five minutes before leaving she went back home disappointed
"Did you get through?" Isabelle asked when leona walk through the door
"Yes I did I'll be in my room looking after them" leona ran up and all that time was spent trying to figure out the relationship between herself and james,
James couldn't feel good if he didn't swing by to see isabelle and he went right over to her house, he went and knock Jeana went to the door and was surprised to see him there, "james you're here?" Jeana asked
"Hey Jeana can I see isabelle?" James asked
"Come on in" Jeana said
"I'll wait here" james said
"Ok" Jeana said going to get isabelle in the kitchen
Leona went to the terrace and saw james van she believes it was her he came to look for but she didn't tell him where she was staying and was sure he couldn't just pick the right place to come, she was going to go down but something was saying not to and she waited
"James is outside" Jeana said
"He's here?" Carmen asked turning to go out
Marlon grab her "he's here to see your sister" he said
Ralf look at isabelle
Isabelle shrugged as she got up to go out he was leaning on his van
Leona saw her mother came out  and james held her hand pull her in for a  hug and kiss her forehead  he always did that to her she can't believe that her mom know james,
"I never know james was still in town" maybel said
"Mm" carmen said
To leona they seems to be  having a intense conversation but she couldn't hear a thing but he had held her hand through out the time
Isabelle had been gone for a long time
"James is a very long talker" Jeana said
"I'll be back" Carmen said and  went to peek out the window
"Isabelle I don't want to loose you again can I get you to be mine again?" James asked
Isabelle look up at him "but james" she said
"But what I haven't stop loving you and I bed you haven't me,we are perfect for each other" he said leaning in he kiss her and isabelle wrapped her arms around him
Carmen open her mouth
Leona eyes widened
"Call me" james said
Isabelle nod she watch him got in his van and drove away,
Carmen ran back to the kitchen,
Leona couldn't believe it she was shaking when when she got back to her room she grew nervous and felt as if she couldn't breathe she started to cry, for she felt left in the dark, she wanted to go to her mom but she still can't be so sure she call Kayden and tell him and he believes that she was to ask but she grew fearful she wanted more information, she stay the remaining time in her room it was almost night fall when she sneak out and went to james she knock but got no reply he was home and his girlfriend car was in the driveway too she let herself in prying the door with a card she climb the stairs and push open the door james and gwen were about to make out and gwen jump up "what is she doing here?" Gwen asked
Gwen was in her panties and bra but james was in his pants
"Leona what you doing here is everything alright?" James asked
"I have to talk to you" leona said
"Can't it wait?" Gwen asked
"It's important" leona said
"This was important"gwen said
"It's ok" james said
"It's not ok" gwen said she hissed got in her clothes and step out the room
James went out behind gwen leaving leona standing in the room she saw something on the floor that cause her to move to it she pick it up and it was a picture one just like the she got she look to be sure it wasn't it and grasp when she found it to match
"What is it you want to talk about?" James asked leona but she couldn't speak anymore she turn and left the room running down,
"Leona bbaby is everything alright?" James asked
"I'm sorry" she said
James sigh he try calling but she didn't pick up
Lena bust in the door and rush in to the living room and started taking the stairs
"Leona where have you been?" Isabelle asked
"I don't want to talk now mom" she call back
Isabelle follow her but she close her door and isabelle knock and she wouldn't answer,
"What happened?" Marlon ask when isabelle came down
Isabelle shook her head
"I didn't know she wasn't here" Jeana said
"I didn't know" isabelle said
"What you think happened?" Carmen asked
Isabelle shrugged
Leona sat looking at the pictures and tears rolling on her face she can't believe it james got to be her dad she knew that for the pictures and the connection she feels it is him she did not know how to ask her mom, she avoided james call avoided her mom knocking
Friday leona stay most the day in her bedroom and didn't want to become out carmen send Shelly to asked if she was hungry but she said no  isabelle was worried for she came home crying and no one knew what happened she try not to think anything negative  she sat thought she has laundry for early tomorrow they have to drive back home she went in the late afternoon to knock on Leona's door "leona honey I'm going to do laundry we have to pack"
"I'm coming"  leona said from behind the close door
Isabelle went off  She was back in the living room with the others when her daughter come bringing her laundry
"You alright child?" Jeana asked
"I'm fine" leona said nodding
"Hungry child?" Auntie pat asked her
Leona shook her head
"Got anything you want to talk about?" Carmen asked
Leona smile and shake her head
"Are you sure?" Carmen asked
Leona nod
Isabelle got up and went down to the wash room leona went with her bringing her laundry
"You alright?" Isabelle asked
Leona nod she turn to leave the room then turn around "did you miss this?" She asked handing the pictures to her mom, isabelle look at it then look at her, "it was at your bedside" leona said isabelle nod, she turn to leave and turn again, "he's my father isn't he?"
"What?"
"James, is he my father?"
"You know james?" Isabelle asked
"He's Denoy's uncle that I talk about"leona said
Isabelle widen her eyes "james?" Isabelle question
"Yes mom james, I saw him yesterday out front talking with you I even saw him kiss you" leona  said
"You saw him you saw him kiss me?"
"He has this as well I found it in his bed  room too " leona show isabelle the picture she look at them look at her daughter "leona" isabelle said
"We have the same last name and his middle name is Leo and you name me leona"
Isabelle stood looking at her daughter in surprise
"The eyes and the hair are from him isn't it?" Leona ask
Isabelle overall her daughter
"Mom  please say something" leona said
Isabelle couldn't speak all this time james was the one her daughter been talking about  and she didn't have a clue she didn't think of the possibility she didn't think to think of it at no cost
"Mom tell me" leona said
Isabelle didn't know how to say it,
Leona took the picture and left the wash room
" Leona" isabelle call and follow her out "leona wait  but she didn't answer she didn't stop , She went through the door, she  left the house with just the picture she took from james house  and her cellular phone
"What happened where is she going  in such a hurry?" Jeana asked
Isabelle close her eyes and sat down she buried her face in her palm  "to see james I guess"
Carmen got closer
"james but why?" Jeana asked
"She found this and james has one at home just the same and she saw him over here, and she "
"She knows james?" Jeana asked
"James is Denoy's uncle who she's been talking about all a long" isabelle said
Ralf sat up straight
"Oh boy"carmen said
Jeana rest a hand on isabelle
Ralf sat there looking and no one was speaking
"I knew it I knew it  I knew it for I know my sister and I know her too well " carmen said grinning, "look at the bright side she knows james is her father now and that's a good thing"
Isabelle look up at her sister,
"I'm saying" carmen said
"I wish I didn't come" isabelle grumble she fell in to tears and rush back down to the laundry room Jeana went after her she turn in to Jeana and hug her
"Don't be sorry you come this must it's better she knows" Jeana said
"She's angry at me"
"That can be understanding but she's gone to james and he'll take care of her" Jeana said
Isabelle nod she turn to do her laundry,
Leona got to James's house she saw he was home  and instead off ringing the doorbell she sat out front james got to the door as he was leaving  he made plans to go by gwen he open the door and  found her sitting  out there "leona you're here, why didn't you rang the bell?,
Isabelle got up and hug him
James smile
Leona hand him the paper
"You bring this you could have keep it or even throw it out it's not really important" james said
"Your middle name is Leo and your Benjamin" leona said
"Yes" james said turning to go back inside leona went in with him
"You know my mom don't you?" Leona ask
James frown  "I don't think I know your mom" james said
"My name is leona Benjamin"
"You're Benjamin that does say we're related" james said with a smile
"There wasn't any cat was there? you saw me an I reminded you of her, you call me isabelle"
James look at her with open mouth she hand him the picture
"Where did you get this?"
"By your bed when I was over yesterday"
"Is this why you run away!"
My mom isabelle has one the same"
"Isabelle is your mom?" James asked "isabelle is really your mother?" He asked again
Leona nod "and I'm your daughter I think"
James took a deep breath and bite his lips
"Come sit can I give you coco with marshmallows?"
"Hot with plenty marshmallows" leona said
He wrapped her in a blanket as she sat at the table and gave her coco tea hot with plenty marshmallows as requested, he push back her hair and smile, "your mom always love it this way, I love marshmallows but not so much in my coco" james said he breath deeply he push back another hair from her face, "oh leona" he said rubbing her cheek, leona smile up at him,
"The minute you walk in the house at my family's I saw it on you but I kept telling myself I'm the one wanting to see it as it was it wasn't there but what I felt for you was what I felt for her only in a different way" james said "you pull your hair back that day and that was when you look just like her but I try to fight it but when ever you were near I felt her with me you're as beautiful as she is"
"Except I have your blue eyes and brown hair" leona said
James  held her face and nod, "those are definitely my eyes" he brush back her hair with his hand,  "And the hair all mind" he giggle and  hug her and felt tears run down his face "isabelle" james held leona tighter and press his lips to her forehead
"It's leona" leona correct him
He grin  and kiss her fore head again, "I love you" james said
"I love you too dad" leona said
James giggle he felt the softest part of his heart move as if it melts he held her in his arms wishing not to let go,
Isabelle finished her laundry and pack their things away it was getting dark when her daughter didn't come back she call but isabelle didn't get to her for she refused to pick up,
When isabelle didn't get to leona she call james, to just last night he told her he still has the same number, her's haven't change but she doubted hell recognize it now,
James sat in his living room his daughter glue to his side they try to catch up
"I'm a straight a student I'm good with english" leona said
"Well so am I baby" james said he kiss her forehead and held her cheek
"My birthday is in February I was born on the twentieth" leona said
"Oh yeah that's my birthday" james said
Leona open her mouth
James nod "I can't believe it"
Leona giggle
"Your mom and I met in college" james said
"I figured it out since she said she date first there" leona said
James nod
"Was my mom that someone who left you at the alter?" Leona ask
"She's the one" james said
"I'm sorry" leona said
"So am I for if we had gotten married then we would be together with you the funny thing is although I was angry I never stop loving her, it's part of why I never left town I was hoping that one day, just one day she would show up "
Leona smile,
James phone rang he took it up to see who for he was to go by gwen he thought she was calling but it was isabelle
"It's your mom" james said
"Don't answer please" leona said
"I'm sorry baby" james said
Leona nod
"Isabelle" james said
"Is she there with you?" Isabelle asked
Ralf look at her so did the others
"She's here" james said
He and leona look at each other
"Can I talk to her" isabelle asked
Leona shook her hands indicating she didn't want to talk
"She doesn't feel like talking now give her time"
"James" isabelle said
"What?" James asked
"She told you right?" Isabelle asked
"You think she wouldn't, I can't believe you didn't say anything" james said
"Can we talk, can you and I talk?" Isabelle asked
"We can talk but not not now my daughter and I  we both need time" james said
"James please" isabelle said
The family kept their eyes on her and carmen  kept her ears as well for she came to lean near her sister to listen
"You had years to talk isabelle and you didn't we just need a few minutes and you're finding that a problem,  Isabelle I'll call you later ok"
"James please don't hang up  I'm sorry"
"You're sorry mh you got so much to be sorry for what are you sorry for now at this minute?" James asked
"Every thing james I'm sorry for everything I can explain" isabelle said
"I bet you can I'll call you" james said and hang up
Isabelle breath harshly rubbing her face,
"What did he say?" Jeana asked
"They don't want to talk" isabelle said with a frown
"You have to understand" Jeana said
"They both need time" carmen said
"I didn't even know that james was still living in harlem" isabelle said
"Yeah I'm surprised and he's looking so good" Jeana said
"Doing good too" carmen said as she sat down
They grew quiet
"Ah didn't I say!" Carmen blur out
Every one look at her
She laugh "I said you didn't have to worry by your daughter is ready for college her money will be paid in full and surprise james is rich" carmen said
Isabelle ignore her and bury her head in her lap
"You  want me to take you home?" James asked leona
"I want to stay the night with you" leona said
"That's what you want?" James said
Leona nod
Isabelle came back down after getting the things put away she fix some tea and sat
"So your daughter is staying over night?" Aunt Betty asked
"So it seems aunt"
"Is it that we won't leave in the morning?" Ralf asked
"Leona has school on Monday, we have to leave" isabelle said
"james might bring her in the morning" maybel said
"Might mom he has to" isabelle said
James help leona into bed and sat next to her
"Don't let her take me dad I don't want to go back" leona said
"You don't have to baby you don't have to" james said he kiss her forehead "get some sleep" he said
"Thanks for believing me" leona said
"That you're my daughter?" James asked
Leona nod
"Your mom was as innocent as as you're and I know her I couldn't find a doubted in my mind you're definitely my daughter"  james said
Leona grin
James left her, and she call Kayden and told him Kayden was surprised she actually did find the man who's her father
"Does this mean you won't come back?" Kayden asked
"I want to be with my  family over here" leona said
"I know you going to what about your mom?" Kayden asked
"I haven't told her yet my dad said I don't have to go back" leona sa
"You're with your dad now?" Kayden asked
"Yes" leona said
"Does this means I can visit you there?"
"I'll let you meet the entire family"
"I would like that" Kayden said he and leona giggle they say goodnight and leona lay down to go to sleep
Isabelle were with the others in the living room as no one had gone off to bed as yet james call her and she quickly answer "where is she?" Isabelle asked
"In bed I just wanted to be sure you know she is staying over you don't have to worry" james said
"We're leaving early" isabelle said "you're going to bring her right?"
"That depends"james said
"James what you mean in depends?" Isabelle asked
They look at her
"It depends on your daughter's decision"
"Leona can't make decisions james she's not even sixteen" isabelle got up to pace the floor"what if I want her to stay?" James asked
"James please leona has school on Monday" isabelle said
"There's no school in this town?" James asked
"For her to start over?"isabelle said
Carmen and Jeana look up
Ralf look from isabelle to her sisters then around the room every one was focused on her as she pace the floor and talk on the phone
""starting over isn't hard isabelle and besides she wants to stay and  all her family members are here, quickly she'll get into school in no time settle in and that's it"
"James don't do this ok, please these are hasty decisions" isabelle said
"Like the hasty decisions you mad isabelle to run off on our wedding day and when you found out you were pregnant why didn't you come back ah and all these you decide to kept it from her"
Isabelle sigh "james, james james please don't do this"
" I'm sorry isabelle but it's already done" he hang up sigh and put his palm over his face
"Ahh ahh damn" isabelle scream and breath hard
"What's new Jeana asked
"Leona said she's not going back to new York and james is behind her what ever she said,"
"He got rights" carmen said
"I can't go back with out her what will I do then" isabelle said
"Stay" Jeana and carmen said
"It's easy to say" isabelle said
Ralf look at her
"I'm sure when they settle down you're going to get better results" auntie pat said
Isabelle remember just yesterday he said he didn't want to loose her again and isabelle is curtain that he'll do what he can to get her staying she got up and said goodnight leaving them
"She never really wanted to go back anyway" Jeana said
"So all this time we have been in the house with james Benjamin's daughter and didn't know it" marlon said leaning forward, "so her talent for music and picture taking comes from him"
"I guess so" carmen said
"Wow james is a well recognize man in the art industry" marlon said
"I saw that now" Jeana said
"Yeah and his music talent is unpredictable" keith said
"Do you believe he had a feeling?" Carmen asked
"Who knows?" Jeana said
Maybel got up and went with her mother to her bed room before she and her husband went off to bed they started saying goodnight little by little Ralf being the last to went up isabelle was sitting by the window he come and sat next to her, "so what's the plan?" Ralf asked
"I can't make one now Ralf" isabelle said
Ralf nod he got up change and climb into bed isabelle couldn't go to bed no matter what she know leona  is with james know she is safe  but it was the plans they were making away from her that bothers her she don't want to go back leaving her daughter she's her life and her companion how will she live with out her she sob to herself
"Hey honey" james said he open his eyes to see leona standing over him "you ok?" He asked
"Are you going to get up?" Leona ask
"What time is it?" James asked
"It's seven" leona said
"You always wake this early? You got that shit from your mom" james grumble
Leona grin
"Im up don't worry about it" he said gett out from under the covers
Leona turn her back
"I'm clothed you don't need to turn away" james laugh and poke her leona giggle james went to the bathroom and leona wrapped up in his bed
He came to the door and saw her laying there, "why the hell did you need to look so much like her" he said
Leona sat up and grin at him, "Does that creep you out?" She asked
"Not anymore it doesn't" james said he came next to her
"Let's go over to my family and I'm sure we can find something there you can wear and later we go by your mom and get your stuffs"
Leona nod
"Let's go well have breakfast when you get fresh"
Isabelle call james and she call leona but neither of them answer her and she becomes frustrated
Ralf was ready and their luggages were on the side of the stairs
"I'm sure if we left late well still get there" isabelle said shed refused to go and leave her daughter behind, she jumped up and grab her keys and was soon to hear leaving the drive way,
Ralf got up and went to the door to look but she was gone
James walk in with leona early Saturday morning
Denoy and Abigail ran to meet her hugging her
"What you doing here so early?" Denoy asked
"And with uncle" Abigail said "did we plan to go somewhere?"
"Leona good morning" Carleen hug leona
"Hi aunt" leona said
"That's official" james said
"What?" Carleen said "leona "you're really Isabelle's daughter oh my God my niece" carmen said with tears as she hug leona
Denoy and Abigail smile at each other
"I felt like I belong in this family the minute I met you all" Leona said
"You said she reminds you of isabelle remember the day at the beach" altoñ said to carleen he chuckled "come here sweetie" he said hugging her
Isabelle giggle
They took terns to hug her
"She need some clothes until we pick her stuff up later"james said
"You're taking her?" Carleen asked turning to look at her brother
"I am keeping her" james said
"What have her mom to say?" Carleen asked
"Nothing I care to hear how" james said and sat down
"I'll get you something to wear" Abigail said "you can use my bathroom"
"Ok"  leona said
They went off
Carleen sat on the arm of the sofa over james and rest her arm on him
"So where is isabelle now?"
"I don't know maybe at home" james said
