Projected Lottery Pick withdraws from WNBA Draft and plans to not pursue professional basketball
by Carsen de la Mothe | Posted March 29th, 2023

Even after leading a once-in-a-lifetime March Madness run, Michigan point guard Winona Rosario withdrew from the 2023 WNBA Draft earlier today. Rosario, who led Michigan to four straight Elite Eights and one title in 2019, posted on her Instagram with a lengthy caption discussing her injuries, her career from Chino Hills until now.

Rosario stated in her post she came to the decision to withdraw from the draft due to nagging knee pains which she claims are "passed down from many generations of Rosarios." Winona, who sat out a total of 6 games during this season due to injury management, says that "... as a player, [she] feels complete. [She's] done all that [she] needs to do. It's only a matter of time until these knee injuries catch up to [her], and [she] wouldn't want a team to pay her to sit."

Winona's career as a college athlete will forever be cemented in NCAA history. Winona currently owns the record for a triple-double with the most points with a 40 point triple-double against UCLA and a 37 point triple-double against UConn.

One thing is for certain, and it is that Winona's withdrawal from the draft is a loss for any team with a pick in this year's draft.
