Sometimes life is not so fair. It throws challenges that we never expect and then leave us all alone. We can't even recognize the people we used to be so close with. We can't recognize the person we have turned into. We are changed.

I was always a confident girl. I had a lot of friends in my school, I would go hanging out with them, I was popular among my father's friends and their families. I was called firecracker. But now I am kind of shy. I like to live in shadows away from the eyes of many people. Now I talk less and always try to remain invisible. Why? Because of the fact that I was married to the most ruthless man I have ever met.

I was backstabbed by my father when one day I was told that I am getting married and there is no other option. When you are so badly betrayed by your own family you can't hold your head high shoulders pushed back and speak with confidence. My father was a businessman and when he saw he was about to lose everything he thought why not lose your only daughter and get to keep everything else.

I had dreams. I had studied journalism, took courses to better my skills, I navigated media platforms, just to become a writer one day. I wanted to write in top magazines and work for best publications. I wanted to become best journalist of my age but here I was sitting behind closed doors, confined to the space of this mansion which I still hate and get chills thinking about how huge and magnificent it is.

"Ma'am lunch is served"

"Okay I am coming" I shut my book and followed the uniformed maid down the stairs. For the most part of day I am left with these maids who spare not a minute to listen to me. All day I have no one to talk. And for my husband he is never home when I am awake. He would sleep in separate room, go to his office without breakfast and then come back when I am in my room.

Oh guys did I tell you about pathetic part of this story. I loved this man. Well I still love him but why do I. Both our fathers were in this community of business persons and our families often met. Honestly Henderson were always alone, their only son didn't bother to come. However it was my fifteenth birthday and community thought it was good to have a dinner and at that dinner he showed up.

My world stopped when I saw him standing at entrance welcomed by my family. He was eighteen at that time and no God how handsome he looked in his navy blue slacks and white crisp shirt. His hair gelled back and his emerald orbs shone. He was supporting hard face however looked pretty. The whole dinner I kept stealing glance. I was not at all focused on my friends, or the food, or the people around me but only him. And all this time he never even sneaked a glance.

When I moved to New York my only regret was not being able to see him. He was finally taking over his father's business and our meetings were few to none however I knew he was in same city as me, our houses were few blocks apart, I knew the building in which he worked. And for him I never existed. I was so madly in love with him, not caring about the fact that I was hurting my heart for him. I was happy with this.

"... Ma'am"

"Huh" my long train of thoughts shattered when I felt shaking on my shoulders. One of our maids was standing there.

"Ma'am your food is served" I nodded and looked at my plate. I held fork in my hand and stabbed the piece of chicken. I felt small and helpless. I was below these maids, even they were independently working here, earning their money. They had a cause to move around in a day and here was I doing nothing even I had a degree in my hands.

"Can I say something" I looked up and faced the young girl standing there. She looked nervous.

"Yeah" my voice was timid. I was ashamed of myself. I felt myself smaller in front of her.
