Sang-un woke up in the middle of the night with Si-ho lying beside her. Her insomnia has been rearing its ugly head again these past few days. Having been stabbed recently together with the flashbacks of her violent past life has triggered her anxieties unfailingly.
Before monsters found them out, she usually gets to sleep like a log only when her body was totally spent doing hard labor for at least twelve hours on a busy day at the laundry plant. But since she stopped working in the meantime as ordered by Hwal for her safety, she hasn't slept well since. The chores in the house doesn't exhaust her enough.
Si-ho since she became pregnant also had some changes in her sleeping patterns. She used to have no problems sleeping, but since monsters started showing up left and right, it has affected her just as much. Sensing that her sister had woken up, she threw her arm over and tapped on Sang-un's shoulder to try to lull her back to sleep.
"Does your back still hurt? Do you need more relief patches?"
"Not anymore. I'm fine now."
"What's on your mind then?"
"Dan Sol... It's a beautiful name."
"Who is that?"
"It was your name in your past life."
"Really? How did you know?"
"Hwal told me."
Si-ho was still a bit groggy, but she tried to be her sister's sounding board. To let her unload whatever was on her mind so she would not lose sleep over it. Returning the favor as Sang-un stepped up for all of them and has become their rock since Ms. Lee died.
"Oh yeah. He mentioned that we crossed paths briefly in my past life."
"You and Do-yun were actually his family. He just didn't want things to be weird with you so he didn't say it out right. Do-yun's name was A-chan. It's a very pretty name too."
"Really? What about you? Are you his family too?"
"No."
Her answer stung, more than she thought it would. She had always felt like an outsider in this non-conventional family that they've created while living together. Si-ho was able to form an intimate bond with Do-yun and Ms. Lee almost instantly. As for her, she felt that she had to work really hard to earn even a little bit of their trust. Before, she thought it was only because they thought she was a murderer. But she now realized that it was more than that. They really were a family in their past lives. But she was not a part of it.
