The breakfast that eventually happened during lunch time, delayed because of tearful confrontations, turned out better than when it started. Si-ho and Do-yun was finally able to breathe freely after they successfully dissuaded Sang-un and Hwal from their planned suicide mission.
"We'll find a way for both of us to live."
When Hwal declared that they will be having more of these meals together from now on, Si-ho and Do-yun truly believed that. After being orphans for far too long, eating together just like a real family would every day, was starting to become a dream that is finally within their reach.
While Si-ho was cleaning the table, Sang-un put the leftovers onto tight sealed containers and placed them back into the fridge. Do-yun on the other hand put away all of the silver wares they'd used into the kitchen sink.
"Do-yun ah, thank you for the food. The bean sprout soup was delicious."
"You're welcome, noona. I'm glad you liked it. Tell me, what do you want to eat for dinner?"
"Let's have what you like. Samgyeopsal?"
"I'd like that. I'll marinate the meat right now."
Do-yun was proud of himself, pleased that his efforts were acknowledged. He smiled happily not only because Sang-un appreciated what he prepared specifically for her, but also at the thought of having meat for dinner with all of them this time, unlike last night. She chuckled at his childlike expressions, remembering he had the same look on his face when they finally bought a rice cooker not long ago. Full of affection, she couldn't help but pat his head, caressing his bleached blonde hair, marveling at his innocence and his propensity to find joy in the simplest of things.
