"Where are we going?" Diana asked Milo, as she tried to balance herself to not fall off his back as they flew through the night sky. She was holding the backpack she had packed as if her life depended on it.
"Puerto Rico, miss," he answered, neighing with delight.
"Puerto Rico?! That far?!" She had never been to Puerto Rico before. At least she knew they spoke Spanish there, which was a relief. But it was an island, far from Mexico.
"Oh, don't worry. We'll be there pronto," Milo answered.
Diana sighed and grabbed the letter Milo had attached to his neck and re-read it.
Trust Milo. It's important he brings you here.
Hunters of Artemis
"So you say these Hunters are...my mother's crew?" Diana felt as if she was about to throw up. She had read a little bit about Greek mythology in high school but had no idea that these things were real. And Milo had just told her that Artemis was her mother. And it took her 19 years to get in contact with her? Sudden resentment appeared inside of her. It wasn't even direct contact; her Hunters were contacting her. Through the anger and confusion, a question struck her head.
"Hold up...wasn't the goddess Artemis a virgin?" she asked Milo. Milo hesitated to answer.
"Sorry, miss, I shouldn't have told you that. Lady Artemis is a maiden, yes. About you...I think it is better that the Hunters explain that to you, or even better if your mother does," he said.
"My mom is with them?!" her heart began to race again with the same hope she had left her bedroom with and climbed on Milo's back.
"Humm" ... Milo had said enough; it was common for Pegasi to talk more than they should. "Sometimes," was the only response Diana got from him.
Some hours passed, and night finally fell to its fullest, the moon just above their heads. After seeing just black sea below her, Diana sighed with relief when seeing city lights in a land not far away. Milo started descending.
"Oh jeez, I'm nervous" Diana whispered.
"Oh, don't be. You'll be safe with the girls," he said. Diana had asked about that safety matter to Milo long before, but he refused to answer, speeding his flight, and shaking his head.
"They'll explain," was the only thing he had said.
As they descended, Diana saw lots of lights beaming and illuminating colorful buildings and neighborhoods. They reminded her of downtown Mexico, but with brighter colors.
"Welcome to San Juan, miss," Milo said, neighing again as he descended in the middle of an indoor garden of what appeared to be a restaurant. It looked as if it was closed, since there were no people inside and the lights were out.
"Humm...Milo?" Diana asked panicky.
"Yes?" Milo neighed when he landed and let his wings rest by his side.
"What am I supposed to do now?" she asked.
"Just wait here," Milo said. Diana jumped down from Milo's back, and he raised his wings, ready to fly again.
"No, wait! Where are you going? Don't leave me alone," Diana begged, beginning to panic as she checked her dark surroundings.
"Sorry miss, but I must leave, I obey orders. It was nice meeting you, though. I hope we see each other again, soon," and just like that, he left. Diana watched as Milo disappeared in the starry night sky.
She began to panic. She looked at her surroundings. She was in the interior garden of a restaurant. There was a bar in a corner, and tables around the trees. It looked like a two-floor restaurant, the walls were windows, so she could see that the insides were dark. She sensed some shadows moving around, and she grabbed her phone from her bag.
In a swift moment, she saw figures of girls jumping from the ceiling, and she felt arms grabbing her, taking her phone from her, and tying up her hands. When she wanted to scream, she felt a cloth being pushed towards her face. She started to see black, and the last thing she heard was an "I'm sorry."
