"Nancy!!" Micheal shouts, snapping me back into reality. "Huh?" I take a seat on my bed. "You've been acting so weird ever since Steve asked you out on that 'date', are you okay?" He sits next to me. "Uhm, yea but I don't know if I wanna go- well I mean I don't wanna disappoint steve but at the same time, I feel like he'll just be accepting and just move on, you know? am I making any sense??" I've been circling my room without noticing that Michael had invited steve over so that we can talk. "Nancy! Jesus Christ, make up your mind!!" Micheal stands up from the bed and leaves my room, closing the door behind him.
Steve texts me that he's outside. I start panicking, what am I supposed to do or say?? He knocks and my mother lets him in while I'm thinking of something to say.
"Nance??" I hear steve on the other side of the door, his voice sounding worried and scared. "Yes?" My voice is very low. Why did Michael have to invite him? "Can I come in?" He asks. "Yeah, sure.". He opens my bedroom door and looks at me. "Is there something you aren't telling me, Nancy?" He sits down on my bed and pats the area next to him. "Well," I start, "I don't think I can go on this date with you. I'm sorry, there's just a lot of things going on in my mind at the moment." I'm on the verge of breaking down because I don't know if I like a girl. "Oh, well you can talk to me about anything that you're going through, Nancy. I'm here for you, I promise." Does he mean it? "Yea, I know. It's just something that I feel I can't share just yet," I say as I scrape nail polish off of my fingernails. "Well, text me whenever you need someone to talk to." He got up and closed my bedroom door.
I walk over to my desk in the corner of my room and start typing. I click on this one link 'are you gay quiz'. I'm thinking about taking it but not 100% sure. am I possibly attracted to robin? no, it can't be I'm straight and have been for the past 17 years. I hear a loud knock on my door which is then followed by a creaking noise. I quickly shut my laptop just in time. "Honey, is everything okay? you never came out for dinner." My concerned mother asks. "Wait, dinner?" I get up from my chair. "Yes, Nancy. How about I let you eat dinner in your room, this one time." My mom is leaning on my door. "Really? Thank you, mom." I say followed by a big smile. "I'll go heat up the food." She closes my door on her way out.
I suddenly get a text from an unknown number. Do I reply?? It can't be that dangerous to reply. The unknown number sends me another text before I get to fully reply, the message reads 'Hey, Nancy!,' How did this person know my name?? 'This is Robin, I got your number from Steve. Sorry if I scared you, haha'. "IT'S ROBIN!!" I accidentally say that out loud. "Dude what's robin?" Micheal bursts into my room. "Uhm nothing!" I blurt out. "Wait. That's why you've been acting so weird! because of Robin! oh my god, Nancy." He exclaims. My mother enters the room with my food, "Micheal Wheeler! Why are you yelling!?" She places the meal on my desk and proceeds to cross her arms. "Nancy won't shut up about Ro-" I quickly place my hand on his mouth before he says anything else. "Nancy!! Get your hand off of my mouth" He sounds mumbled. "Nancy, take your hand off of your brother's mouth." I do as my mom says. "Finally. Never do that again." He starts to wipe his mouth. "Well, your Dad and I will be downstairs if you guys need us." She closes the door behind her.
"Micheal I swear you are getting on my last nerve." I stare at him. "Jeez, what's your issue?"
He stares back. "My issue is that you can't keep your mouth shut, you just have to go around telling everybody everything!!" I've yelled at him on accident. "You could've been nicer about it you know?" he closes my bedroom door. good job, Nancy.—TIMESKIP—
"Nancy?" A familiar voice calls out. "Yes?" I reply. "Can I come in?? Your mom reached out to mine, ha" I then start to realize who's on the other side of the door, It's Robin."Come in!" Robin opens the door and I walk over to her and hug her. "You okay, Nance?" Genuine worry in her voice. "Life's been throwing things at me, but for the most part everything's been good." I back away.
"Wanna talk about it??" She says as she's rubbing my arm. "I would like that." we both walk over to my bed and take a seat. "So Nance, what's been on your mind? Is it that whole pep rally thing that threw you off? or?" She's facing me. "No no, it's not the pep rally thing, trust me." I give her a quick smile. "What is it, you can tell me anything. I swear I won't tell a single soul, Nance." She gives me a quick smile back. "You promise, Robin? This isn't just some trick to get me to tell you everything and then get it spread all around the school?" I have problems sharing my thoughts. "Nance, I would never do something like that. that wouldn't be very nice of me." She laughs. "Are you 100% sure, Robin?" I'm probably giving her a hard time now thinking about it. "Nance, I promise to not tell anyone, I'll even do a pinky promise just so you know I mean it." Robin and I share a laugh. She better not break it.
