Chapter 8: A Summer With Eddie

'' But mom, every year we go! '' I complain at the dinner table.

'' We are going. I didn't buy tickets to the flight for you not to go. ''

'' I can't believe you're making me spend my summer in boring Ohio. '' I said.

'' Excuse me, but Ohio is not boring. ''

'' Can't I just stay with (Insert Best Friend's name)? ''

'' Absolutely not. I do not want their parents to be responsible for you. ''

'' But mom, none of my cousins are even my age! The oldest one is Sean and all he does is play video games with Dustin. ''

'' Hey, Sean is a fun guy. '' Said Dustin.

'' Not when you guys isolate me. '' I said quietly.

'' Honey, even if I wanted to, I can't cancel on your aunt. I already told her we're all coming. ''

I angrily left the table and called Eddie.

'' Hey Babe, what's up? '' He asked once he picked up.

'' Nothing much. Just packing for my family's boring annual vacation. '' I said, rolling my eyes as I got up to grab my suitcase.

'' Boring? ''

'' Well, we go every year to visit our cousins in Ohio. ''

'' That sounds like fun. ''

'' Fun? Hardly. We have nothing to do there. All we do is play video games with our cousin, Sean. Honestly, I'd rather stay here in Hawkins. ''

'' Is there any way to get out of it? ''

'' Nope. My mom doesn't like to stray away from tradition. In reality, I think she's scared of my aunt. ''

'' Ha. Anyways, should I let you get to packing cause I totally understand if you can't talk right now. ''

'' Alright, I'll let you go. Bye, love you.''

'' Love you more. '' He said, hanging up before I could even argue with him.

I laugh and suddenly get a thought in my head. What if I stay with Eddie? I mean, I wouldn't be bored or isolated. Best of all, I'd be around someone I love and have genuine fun with. Although, Mom would never say yes. She's never even met Eddie before. Although, I could always try asking her about staying with (Insert Best Friend's Name) again.

'' Hey Mom, Dad! Can we talk?'' I yelled.

'' Coming! '' They both said.

Once they came to my room, I took a deep breath before asking the question.

'' I'm sorry for my outrage. I wanted to tell you that I called (Insert Best Friend's Name) and that they're fine with me staying with them.''

'' You promise to not do anything stupid? '' asked my Dad.

'' Yes, sir. '' I said.

'' Alright, you can stay. ''

'' Yes! Thanks, guys. '' I said, giving them both hugs.

'' Don't do anything stupid! '' Yelled Dustin from his room.

'' Wasn't planning on it. And since when are you the boss of me? '' I yelled back.

'' Are you even packed, Dusty- bun? '' asked my mom to Dustin.

'' Uh...Let me go do that.'' He said, running to his closet.

Once they were all done packing, I got my duffel bag and packed some clothes. If I was going to stay with Eddie, I needed to pack fast. He didn't know I was coming and I didn't care to explain. I also got dressed in an outfit like this:
