(Hope)
"I love you Jasper." I whispered.
I couldn't hear a reply, all I could hear was very distant voices, I couldn't understand anything more than a word or two, here and there.
One time I thought I heard Jasper but I had to admit there was a possibility I was imagining it for company. I had been laying here for ages, I decided that I'd had enough of slumping around and stood up.
A soft gray light shone around me, just enough to illuminate what looked and felt like fog. I started to walk for miles with no change. I started to believe I was not moving had it not been for a small ache in my feet. When I stopped walking and stood still, the fog was the same.
"Hey!" I shouted, waving my hands.
"Hey! I'm still here!" My words sounded muffled to my ears, as if I were wrapped in a thick layer of cotton wool.
Somebody had to have heard me, I kept shouting until I got their attention. I really hope they tell me what is going on.
My stomach jolted nervously, what if no one ever responded? I don't even know where I am, why I am here or how I got here, I cannot stay here forever. The moment I thought about this, finally something changed.
The fog drew back and a sunlit road appeared. I could not recognize the street. There were fields of green grass on either side and a lovely white house in front of me.
I saw a huge window on the front and by the looks of it, it had got all my childhood pictures in it. There was a little bush on either side of the door and it was beautiful, I loved how much like home it looked.
I felt a sudden, almost physical longing to walk down the path. To feel the sun on my skin, to remember what warmth felt like.
As I watched, the sunshine intensified at the far end of the road, glowing so bright I had to squint. It was pulling me toward it, a warm tug somewhere in my chest, there was a peace down that road, I could feel it.
Was I dying? No. I stepped away from the road, I could not die now, I had only just started to live. I found love and I had moved to a place for a fresh start. My life just started.
How cliche.
"Walk into the light?" I shouted.
I felt furious, whoever was playing this sick joke on me I was not going to go along with it.
"Stop playing, just let me go!"
The longing only increased, at the end of the road I was sure it was peaceful and it looked so perfect and wonderful. I could not help myself imagine what it would feel like to walk down that road.
Unwillingly, I raised my foot to step forward and then forced myself still. No, I thought shaking my head,
"No, I refuse. I am Hope Lane and I still have a life on the mortal plane, send me back! Whatever game you're in, I'm not playing it."
My voice was cracking and I slumped my head down, defeated and turned around. My eyes caught a dark figure coming toward me.
"Hello, Hope." A booming voice invaded my ears,
"Who are you?" I asked, my eyes piercing her. She did not answer.
"What am I doing here?" I stared at the figure defiantly.
The figure stepped into the light, it was a beautiful woman with long white hair cascading down her shoulders, she wore a long baby blue dress and black shoes.
