I nervously wait at the train station. She's here any moment. I need to say how sorry I am and that I acted like a jerk, or as Renée would say: klootzak.
I look outside, making sure my taxi is still waiting. I see Mr. Moons from a distance and want to raise my hand to wave until I see Sophia walking next to Renée. I lower my hand and hide behind a pilar.
When they walk by, I overhear some of the conversation. 'Thank you for coming,' Renée says to Sophia. 'My pleasure,' Sophia says and smiles. 'Yes, thank you. But I will pay for the taxi,' Mr. Moons says in his terrible English accent.
I wait until they all step in a taxi and take off. I go to my own taxi waiting for me and say they can drive me back to the university. I can't be mad at Renée for blocking me on literal every social media platform, but it really does hurt seeing her with Sophia. It's like she just replaced me in one day.
When I arrive back at the campus, I see Renée and Sophia walking to the Victoria building – which is also my building. I start speed walking but can't catch up to them.
At normal speed I walk up the stairs to Renée's floor. When I walk to her room, I hear them laugh. I haven't heard her laugh like that since the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert, which was almost four months ago. I knock on the door and Sophia opens it, looking a bit surprised. 'I'll go,' she says and walks past me.
Renée looks at me pokerfaced with her arms crossed. 'I'm sorry,' I say as sincere as possible. She just looks at me. 'I just miss you and I didn't know how to tell you,' I say. 'How about: "Renée, I miss you"?' she asks ironically. I sigh and look at the wooden floor.
'I miss you too when you're not being a jerk,' she says after a moment. I look up, into her eyes. 'I'm really sorry,' I say and walk to her to give her a hug. 'Thank you,' she says and hugs me back. 'I love you,' I whisper. 'I know you do,' she whispers back.
My heart sinks in my chest, but I put on a brave face and smile at her when I loosen the hug. 'Was your cousin telling everyone he is the favourite grandchild again?' I ask. 'Yes, even my aunt was getting annoyed by it,' she says. I laugh.
