Two days have passed and I am starting o doubt if Stanford will ever accept me. 'We'll be visiting my aunt today and won't be back until tomorrow,' Annie says. Sophia nods as she eats her lunch. 'Okay,' I mumble. The older adults finish their lunch early and get ready to leave.
'What do you want to do today?' Sophia asks. For the last two days we visited every museum there is in the neighbourhood. 'Maybe something that doesn't require standing and walking all day. My feet still hurt,' I laugh. 'Mine too!' Sophia laughs and finishes her lunch.
We clean up the table and decide to go back to the little lake. One of the cats Sophia's nonna feeds follows us. We put our towels back on the dry grass that seams even more dry than is was two days ago. Sophia takes of her dress she wore to cover her bikini and starts to put sunscreen on.
I take of my T-shirt and take the sunscreen as Sophia hands it over to me. We help each other to put sunscreen on our backs and shoulders. 'Did you hear anyt-' 'No, I did not hear anything from Stanford.' 'Okay. But I was going to say Colin.' 'Oh,' I say surprised and feel stupid. 'He texted yesterday. He and the band are on a holiday to Spain,' I say.
'Gladys and Arthur joined them. He didn't mention Elise,' I continue. 'She always goes to Norway in the beginning of the holidays.' 'Oh, makes sense then.' We are silent for a while. 'Did you hear anything form your mother?' Sophia carefully, but curiously asks. 'Nope. Not even a "Happy Birthday" and that was months ago.' 'It's a shame she treats her children like that.' I nod and then smile.
'At least your mom wished me a happy birthday.' 'She did not!' Sophia says in surprise. 'Yes, yes she did. She even called me.' 'And you didn't tell me that sooner!' Sophia laughs. 'Well, I didn't want you to feel left out because your mom loves me more,' I joke with a grin. 'She does not love you more!' Sophia laughs and pushes me jokingly in the water.
I come back to the surface in surprise. 'You did not just push me in the water!' 'Yeah, I did,' Sophia laughs and jumps in. 'You take forever to get used to the cold.' We float around a little, enjoying the cold water. For me, this moment can last forever. There's nothing to worry about. Sophia starts humming a song. I start to recognize the song starts humming a song. I start to recognize the song Labyrinth by Taylor Swift. She has made me listen to this song a lot.
Her humming turns into her singing the song very quietly. I listen to her beautiful voice. She could easily start a singing career. I think no one really knows how well she can sing. I have only ever heard her sing when we are alone. While I listen to her, I close my eyes. For a moment I feel at ease, like nothing can go wrong and everything is perfect.
The cat that followed us starts making panicking sounds. I open my eyes and see dark clouds with thunder making their way to us. Sophia and I look at each other and get out of the water. It's no use drying ourself with a towel as it starts raining. We take our stuff and run back to the house. The cat follows us, but parts ways as they see another house.
The thunder starts to get really loud, lightning joining it. We run to the garden house, that is closer. I close the door behind us. Our breaths are heavy from running. We both stand there soaking wet, looking out of the window.
Sophia hangs the wet towels on a chair in the corner. 'We should get out of our wet clothes,' she says. I nod, still looking out of the window. 'You can change first,' I say and fixate my attention to a tree branch waving in the wind. 'Or...' Sophia whispers next to me. I wait for the rest of the sentence, but it stays silent.
I turn around and look at her. 'Or?' I asks curiously. Sophia starts blushing and looks at her feet. 'Or we could change together? Maybe even shower? I am starting to get cold.' She says it so quietly, not really sure if she should have said what she said. I start smiling at her, but she doesn't notice. 'I am okay with that.'
She looks up at me in surprise and starts smiling. 'Really?' she asks a little louder. I nod. 'Yes.' Sophia gently takes my hand before kissing me. I let her decide what she wants to do. She guides me to the bed and never breaks contact with my lips. Our clothing starts to disappear from our bodies and decorate the floor.
I take a look at her. I feel myself blushing and smile softly at her. 'You are beautiful,' I whisper. My hand gently cups her face. 'So are you,' she whispers and kisses me again. Her hands start to explore my body. I guess changing into different clothes and taking a shower has to wait.
