CHAPTER ONE

"YOU'RE ALSO A NATBLIDA"

                 EVANGELINE winched as the boy's back hit the ground with a loud thud, "you need to focus," Anya said as he grunted in pain.

A young girl, with dark hair attempted to step forward and help him up onto his feet but Indra stopped her with her sword. "let him get up on his own,"

The girl seemed hesitant as she turned her head to watch the boy grip onto his stomach, "you need to be quicker than that," Anya hissed as she kicked his bicep.

"aah," he groaned as his chest fell to the ground flatly.

"when you hit the ground you need to get back up," Anya demanded as she looked up at every girl and boy.

Anya nodded at Indra who dropped her sword to her side, allowing the girl to now help the boy up onto his feet.

Evangeline watched closely as her posture straightened, "Evangeline, come," Anya instructed.

The girl's eyes widen in surprise. she has never fought against anyone but Anya herself. she was always told she wasn't ready to fight against another student.

Confidently, Evangeline slowly walked towards Anya who stood in the middle of the room. "Nova, come,"

As Nova thanked everyone for wishing her luck, Evangeline stood next to Anya with her hand rested on her sword.

"good luck," Anya whispered but didn't bother to look down at Evangeline, "remember this isn't till death, this is training," the woman pointed out as she stared at the two sternly.

Nova smirked cheekily as everyone watched Evangeline pull out her sword from her sheath with ease.

Most of the students were sure Nova was going to beat Evangeline easily and she even thought that too.

"Aaah!" Nova screamed as she jumped into the air and attempted to cut Evangeline like thin ice but the brunette moved to her left easily.

Evangeline gulped as her fingers gripped onto her sword to the point her knuckles turned white, "that was good," Anya complimented.

"Ah!' Evangeline moved to her left again before the sword could nip at her skin.

Nova turned her head to her left and squinted her eyes at Evangeline like she was reading her, "you got to be faster,"

"your telling me what to do now?" Nova asked with a scoff, "i haven't even watched you fight once" she spat.

"heh," Evangeline chuckled as she quickly pointed the tip of her sword into Nova's direction but the girl quickly moved to the side startled by the sudden movement.

"come oooonn, you can do better than that," quickly, Evangeline lifted her right leg up and kicked Nova's kneecap making her squeak in surprise.

The corner of Anya's lips twitched as she watched Lexa slowly approach them with her usual warpaint on her face.

"i know i can," Evangeline mumbled as she kicked the left side of Nova's jaw, "wha-" Indra quickly cut the girl off, "let Evangeline finish,"

As Nova fell to her knee's with her sword hanging loosely in her hands, Evangeline held her sword to her neck effortlessly.

"you did good, Evangeline," Anya said as she mentioned to the girl to stand down.

Evangeline nodded as she dropped her sword to her side and held her hand out for Nova to take.

Nova looked up at the girl and scoffed as she stood on her own and wiped the corner of her lips, frowning as she felt a wet substance.

"Miss Anya, physical touch is not aloud," a voice called out in confusion, "if your talking about Nova, Daniel, don't worry about her," everyone looked at Lexa.

"it was just a scratch, i'm sure Eve didn't mean no harm," Evangeline swallowed hard as Lexa looked up at her.

"yes, of course," she whispered before she turned to look at Nova with an apologetic stare, "i'm sorry about your jaw, Nova," the other girl nodded.

Indra quickly stepped forward, "we should carry on,"

"wait, i was wondering if i could ask Evangeline an request first," Lexa suddenly said, catching everyone's attention. especially Anya's.

Anya stepped forward and stood beside Evangeline, "what is it, heda?" she asked curiously.

"Evangeline, would you accept a challenge up against a much more skilled person?" Evangeline bit her tongue as she turned to glance at Anya who stiffened instantly.

"i don't thin-"

Evangeline gasped in shock as she quickly held her hand up to block the blade from hitting her. "you need to be prepared all the time," Lexa stated as she put more weight on the sword.

"Heda," Anya warned as she watched from the side.

"fight back," Lexa demanded through gritted teeth which made Evangeline shiver as she felt the blade slowly seethe into her skin.

Indra watched intrigued as Evangeline struggled against the blade, "fight, Eve," Anya suddenly said.

Lexa watched Evangeline's actions closely as she suddenly squeezed her hands closed, causing the blade to cut deep into her skin.

"a natblida," Daniel muttered as black blood dripped down onto Evangeline's glove and onto the ground like silk.

Anya stood amazed as Evangeline stood back up properly and pushed Lexa off of her roughly before holding her sword up to protect her which made Lexa nod.

"you're strong," she stated as she looked down at Evangeline's bleeding palm, "you're also a natblida,"
