As we walked into the next classroom, the teacher gave us a mean look. She sighed as we sat down in a seat towards the back. Zachary raised an eyebrow at us.
"Why were you guys so late?" He asked.
"I kinda fell asleep in Detention." I shrugged.
"Oh. That makes sense."We all turned our attention to the teacher.
"Hello class. My name is Mrs. Hill, and I'll be your second teacher." She snapped her head to a student chewing gum.
"Spit that out Missy. You know you're not allowed to chew gum in this school."
"Yes ma'am." The girl, who I assumed was Missy, walked over to the trash can and spat it out.
The teacher then assigned us some worksheets. While I was in the middle of an equation, I heard Zachary clear his throat. I looked up at him confused. He pointed with his eyes to under the table. I looked and there I saw it.
It was a pink notebook with glitter glue covering the cover. It had the word 'Diary' in big gold letters on the front. I bent down to pick it up. I pointed at it, then at Zachary. He nodded his head no. I decided to read the first page. Just to try to figure out who's it was.
Dear Diary,
Today is my first day of school. It's been going great so far...but I think I already like someone. They're just so pretty and nice. But I'm gonna stay focused on my work right now. I can try to talk to them later!Another entry, also from today.
Dear Diary,
I just can't help myself! I'm gonna ask my crush out tomorrow! I hope they say yes, but what if they don't? I'm really nervous, but hopefully I can do it! I'll think about it tonight. There were no more entries. I closed the book and wondered who it could be. I didn't know many people, so this was going to be hard. I decided to put it in my backpack. I don't think the person could come back in here and get it. Before I knew it, the bell rang.
"Alright class. That's all for today. If you didn't finish your work in here, it's homework."
The whole class sighed. We said bye to Cho and Zachary followed me to my locker. I got my stuff out, being careful to put the diary at the top of my bag.
"So what did you find?" Zachary asked me as we walked towards the bus.
"This." I said, pulling it out of my bag. He gasped.
"A diary? Hmm, I wonder whose it is...Did you read it?" We sat down on the bus, and he took it from my hands.
"Yeah, but only to see if I could know whose it was. To return it." I tried to read his expression as he looked at the entries.
"Yeah sure. Dang, this is some juicy stuff. Now I really want to know."
"Yeah, I think I'm gonna try to return it tomorrow."
"Alright, sounds good." Zachary pulled out his 3DS. He loaded up the game.
"Can I play?" I asked. He looked up at me nervously.
"Well you'd have to make a character, and a house, and it takes up a lot of space..."
"Oh. It's fine, really."
"Do you have a DS?" He asked me as he returned his gaze to the game.
"No. My parents don't really get a lot of technology stuff."
"Oh, alright."
Suddenly, the bus stopped. I looked up and it was my house. I hopped off the bus and waved by to Zachary. He waved back. I headed inside, hoping dinner was on the table already. I needed to do my homework.
"Hey Pumpkin, how was school?" My dad asked me as I came through the door. The smell of fresh cooked pizza wafted in my direction.
"It was good. Did you order pizza?" I noticed the box on the counter, and my dad handed me a slice.
"Yeah, your sister brought some from work. Do you have any homework?" He asked me. I took a slice and sat it on a plate. Then I pulled out my unfinished worksheet.
"Yeah, I'm gonna do it while I eat. Speaking of Marcella, where is she?"
"Another late delivery." We said at the same time, and my father laughed. I smiled.
"How was work?" I asked with my mouth half full. Ok sure, maybe it's a bit rude. But I need to do two things at one time! And talking to my dad was a third thing.
"It was alright. I finished that set of chairs for the Huckleberry's."
"Nice," I finished my last equation. "I'm gonna go outside, okay Dad?"
"Alright. But when your sister gets home, come inside. And ask her about her day, okay?"
"Okay Dad." I ran up to my room and changed out of my uniform.
I put on a t-shirt that, thinking about it, is a little odd. It has a beanie-baby worm on it and it says 'You think you've felt true fear? You think you've known actual pain?'. Yeah, quite odd. I also put on a pair of jean shorts. They weren't weird or anything. I headed outside towards the big tree in our backyard. My favorite tree, the one with the swing.
